I liver shot my buck last year. He troted off for about 70 yards and that's as far as he went. It was late morning and I was able to keep an eye on him. He tried to get up once afer he bedded down and that was it. Waited a good hour after the last time I saw movement just to make sure he was in fact done for. Odds are yours will do the same and be just where you saw him last. You did the right thing to back out and wait. Good luck and looking forward to the pics...

Sounds like you made a good hit (not a great hit) and you did the right thing by backing out. Now, get some sleep and go get that boy in the morning. Good luck!!!!!

You did the right thing by waiting. Hope you find him this morning and post the pics!

I did the same thing last year and lost him in the CRP. Never did recover him, but I'm sure the yokes and hogs enjoyed him.

He is trying to get to somewhere he feels comfortable. Look for some thickets. He might lay in that CRP if he can't make it.

You may also want to look for a water source if you aren't able to find much sign to follow. Make sure you keep us posted!

Sure sounds like a dead deer to me!! Your a smart man to back on out like you did. If a liver shot deer is jumped he can cover some good ground without much blood to show for it.

Looking forward to some pics..
