The wait is killing me!!
I shot a doe last night at last light 52 yard shot open feild and sure I gut shot her. I work third shift so I scanned the area quickly and found nothing so I went home to get ready for work. This night is dragging by cause I want to get out and recover my deer! So hopefully this morning since I let her go she did not go far and it will be easy to recover.
|
Good luck, hope you find her. You did the right thing buy pulling out and letting her lay and expire. Knowing where you hit your deer is so important so you know whether you should be looking or waiting.
|
??? Why the hell are you making a 52 yard shot???? Hope you find her.....

You shot how far? You hit her where?
If thats a comfortable shot, why'd you put one in the paunch? 52 yards is alot of time to react, not surprised with the outcome. |
I'd take a 52 yarder under the correct circumstances. Stuff happens and she got hit in the guts. Guess what it could happen just the same at 10 yards at 52. You'll be fine twild just dive in and do your best and you'll find her.

What does surprise me is the cavalier approach by the original poster regarding distance and shot placement, on the internet. TWILDASIN: Just curious, were you using an overdraw and mechanicals? |

First off deer is recovered!! Second off I really need to stop underestimeting my shooting! I smoked her exactly where I aimed in the front shoulder she was quartering to slightly so the arrow passed threw and came out threw the intestines between the legs thus the noise I heard thinking the worst that I gut shot her when actually the shot was perfect! She went a maximum of 40 yards. Now for you guys who say " what the hell are you doing shooting that far?". Well actually I shoot out to 60 yards and I do it everytime I shoot outdoors if possible. To each his own I guess sorry if I dissapointed anyone but I would take that shot again over and over again it was perfect except for her to quarter to at the last minute! She was smoked with my new 09' Captain shooting Easton lightspeeds 500 spine with a 57gr. Rocket mini blaster shooting 326 fps. Sorry for no pictures I don't have a computer I use my iPhone.

Congrats twild. I'm with you. I'd take that shot 99 of 100 times but if the circumstances aren't what I want them to be. I won't shoot. Period. And just cause some of you other guys wouldn't take that shot doesn't mean he isn't comfortable with it. To each his own. And I'm onboard with you on this one.

With several thousand posts, that iPhone must be about worn out LOL Congrats on finding her. Love to see some pics:) |
It never ceases to amaze me how quick some people jump on someone for their shooting distances, equipment etc. I too would have no problem takin this shot under the described conditions. The deer was relaxed feeding, he knew the exact yardage, and the deer was in a field meaning nothing for the arrow to hit. everyones comfortable and efficent shooting range differs!!! Under different conditions (deer is alert, in the woods, high winds, unknown exact yardage) this would be a bad shot, but here i see nothing wrong with it. I have killed several deer 50+ yards under identical conditions. Ive also had bad hits and misses on deer under 30yds. Distance is not always the make or break factor in a good/bad shot nor is equipment. Sometimes **** happens and we dont make the best shot. I never see anyone on her bit#*ing out someone who gut shot there deer at 20yds or with a fixed head-why is that?It must not happen, yeah right!! Twildasin- kudos too you for trusting your ability and equipment and making a great shot and successful recovery.

So far, as for me,- KNOCK ON WOOD- it hasn't!:happy0001: But, like you said, I can attribute that to " sometimes .....happens " that way. I make no apologies for my belief that. IMHO, an archer should shoot the heaviest arrow/broadhead he can, accurately. Then again, just as I don't agree with baiting, I honor the " to each his own " philosophy. I don't expect everyone to share my ethics, nor should they of me. Once again, that's the way s..t happens. |

It was a out 20 yards from where she crashed must of hung up in intestines on exit and fell out there! As for pictures as I said before that's tough right now, however my wife is gonna do a download on my phone so I can insert photos! I will be getting a ner puter sometime soon here I hope so I will be able to share with everyone. I have not even been able to post trail cam photos. Thanks to all and good luck out there! |
One question?? The foxes destroyed the hind quarters However I did salvage back straps front shoulders and neck but anyways why did the foxes eat the ears and eyeballs were gone??? Or was this a different critter and should I worry about the meat??
|
Congrats on the recovery, Tim.
|
That reminds me, I am gonna see about picking up a furtaker's lic before we come down. Those damn foxes have to die. Congrats Tim.

WTG, glad you found her. And by the way GREAT SHOT!!!! I agree, the birds will eat the eyes. Weird that the ears where gone, cant say I have ever seen that before. Depends on the temps there, as to how good the meet would be. If it didn't stink and wasn't gooey, I would say its ok. Do you cut the meet up your self? If not, your butcher would be able to tell you if its any good. I know its been in the lower 40's here at night lately, but last night it was in the mid 50's. Could be questionable if it was that warm where your at, I think it would also depend on how long she was dead also.

Congrats, nice shooting!

nicely done, Tim! Congrats to you my friend!!!:woot:
