Default Posted Signs?

Me and a buddy just acquired a new piece of land to hunt we are goin down to post it tommorrow. And we have never had to post a piece of property before. It is 35 acres, how many posted signs do you think we will need to cover the perimeter of the land and how far should we space them out? There are a couple adjoining properties and we are not sure but have a gd idea that people in the area hunt and probably have and are hunting our new land. Thanks

Check the requirements per your State. Generally each state designates what information needs to be on each sign and how far apart.

Nick,

Sorry, I did not even notice you are also from Maryland. There is not a specific limit on the number of signs or spacing between them. You can use blue paint to mark trees which tells hunters there is no hunting or tresspassing. In my opinion spend the few bucks and buy the signs, trust me on this one.

The following below is a cut and paste from page 20, lower left hand corner of the Maryland DNR hunters guide.

Controlling Hunter Use of Private Property
Posting property boundaries in a conspicuous manner makes it
illegal to trespass or for any person to enter without the landowner’s
permission. Maryland law allows the use of blue paint stripes, as well
as signs, to indicate private property boundaries. Vertical paint marks
at least 2 inches in width and 8 inches in length must be centered
at least 3 feet, but no more than 6 feet, from the ground or water
surface. The paint must be oil-based and bright blue.

Goodluck,
Dave

I always recommend enough to make it visible and known that you want no one in there.

I just got done putting up the signs I have on maple posts along the roadside along with the ones stapled to the trees.

would put more signs up than what you think you might need........that way when they''can't" see the blue lines on the trees they might be able to read the signs!
