Think I have enough KE to use that head??? lol(I love rubbing it in. Being a 30" draw is a heck of an advantage)

Thats a cool diagram and a particularly perfect shot!

What I think is neat is how high the darn shoulders are!!! JEEZ! I would have never guessed them to be so high!

If you read down in the responses,he says he double lunged it and caught the aorta artery.

I didnt bother to go that far into them. I figured there would be a bunch of tree hugger bashing going on:rolleye0011:

To be honest, this head looks like a 70 ft/lb ke head or more.Atleast to me.

The shot was perfect according to this diagram and he still had very little penetration and you know he had alot of ke being in Africa.

However, there is alot of bone in that area and even a rib is going to cause serious penetration issues.A little higher probably would have been better.

Agreed that a very short DL will also hamper performance. I don't necessarily agree though the this head would require 70 ft/lbs of energy, but we are splitting hairs at that point.

I think we are both on the same page that if you want to shoot expandables, especially extra wide ones, you need to make sure your set up puts out sufficient energy to ensure proper penetration.

After watching the video again there is little doubt in my mind that he encountered some kind of bone on that shot. The eland was quartering away pretty hard and you can see the tail of the arrow kick forward on entry. In a rearward expanding head that can mean only one thing and that is the arrow hit something hard causing it to change direction.

They are an interesting head design, but the large ferrule does concern me from a flight standpoint.

Agreed, that is why I stated to atleast do some testing.I personally feel on any kind of bone hit that quite a bit of energy is going to be lost due to the ferrule and the rearward energy of the "dead blow" tip.In my minds eye,the tip acts just like a dead blow hammer and all the energy from a hard hit will be transmitted back through the shaft.

I agree 100% about the ferrule size. I view that as a big downside for this head. Regarding the "dead blow" I understand what you are saying, but is there really enough travel to affect the arrow? The amount of travel in the tip is 1/4" at the most and it should be pushed in prior to encountering bone. I just don't see how this would be any different than a fixed blade head encountering bone. Admittedly I don't know enough about physics to fully understand, but from what I can tell the difference between the Bloodrunner hitting bone and a fixed head hitting bone should be minimal.

Either way it makes no difference to me, I'm currently shooting for another broadhead company, but these things always rouse my curiosity.

Emily is shooting GrizzTricks this year, and I am going to Bow hunt with mechanicals this year. I just bought some N.A.P. Bloodrunners and some N.A.P. Spitfires. Slick Tricks haven't failed me yet, but I want to just go mechanical this year. I ......saved a bunch of $$ buying everything at 20% off at Sportsmans' Warehouse today. 5 more days till IAs' Opener Archery deer!!
