Gloves??
Who wears gloves(latex, nitrile) when they are gutting a deer? Honestly I never have, I promised if CWD or something moved into my part of the state I would but it never did so I dont worry about it. I just dont like the feel of wearing gloves..
|
I normally do, but yesterday I forgot to bring a pair along when I went hunting. I had to gut out my doe the old fashioned way, gloves free.

I run a medical clinic, so I use the surgical gauntlets we have here. They go up mid-way up my forearm, and are VERY strong, since they are made for surgical use. I've not really done it for disease prevention, more just for ease of cleanup.

^^^^What He Said^^^^, i only wear gloves for the ease of clean up..!

Never have but if I did i would probably cut a whole in them on accident.
|
I use them all the time for easy clean up. I spend more time cleaning my knife than anything now. I love it.

Never used gloves, we have soap & water in Va to clean up with :)
|
I've used them but u cut them within the first few minutes anyway.. I have a pair or two left over that I'll use on my next deer.. theyre always in my pack..
|
I wear 'em. Like you guys said...easy cleanin'
|
I don't wear them even though I have access to them in my lab.
We go to all the effort of wearing saftey harnesses and such and even berate hunters that don't, but don't protect ourselves from potential bloodborne illnesses that could come from deer. There is a reason doctors nurses and dentists use them. The process is call universal precautions. There really is no excuse (just like wearing a harness) in not wearing gloves to protect you from disease while gutting a deer. With that being said, I will be packing a few gloves in my backpack this season. Plus it the clean up factor is a plus. |

I use them every time. Just saves a lot of cleanup time and they are cheap and don't take up much room.
|
I can understand the ease of clean-up, but I'm thinking that if you're going to eat the deer, the gloves aren't going to do a lot. Mankind has made it this far, and I'm sure millions (if not billions) of deer have been cleaned without gloves!

I carry a small pint size ziploc bag with several pair of nitrile based gloves (purple)...and some packaged wipes (like you get at when you eat ribs)...
Basically it is for clean-up...as your odds of picking up something for gutting a deer is probably lower than from shaving...but it does not take up significant room... And after the gut pile has been removed from the deer, I go back and harvest the bladder to later extract the urine for my own deer urine...it does help with that...especially if you intend on eating that PB&J sandwich afterwards... |
More than deer to gut. Hogs are not the cleanest animals. Just makes sense to do a little protection when gutting. Who knows whats on your hands that you could be getting on the meat like te glands on the legs.
Just makes sense to me to try and keep things as clean as possible. Used some this summer that came with some wipes. They were the ticket. No one has ever said my food tasted gamie. I think I'll stick with the gloves. Does give me something to think about. Maybe they aren't needed. |
