good knife for less then a100 bucks.
What knife would you guys recommend for gutting a deer under 100 bucks. I am unsure if i want a guthook or not so feel free to recommend either. Ohh and i would like something without wood. For the safty issue with blood and such. A one piece stainless steel would be great

I've used the same Buck 110 since I was 14, i'm now 28, they retail for about $35 bucks. Fancy knives are not for gutting deer IMO.
|
i agree...an ole knife is fine for guttin deer...many guys go WAY overboard IMO with "guttin knives"
i use a case "trapper" knife with 2 blades...usually always using the very pointy blade... many guys make gutting a deer into some surgical process when IMO it doesnt need to be...im the guy that got the deer gutted and hands cleaned before the person that killed it got their tag filled out...a couple minutes and im outta there...just no need to get fancy...and no need for a fancy knife. a GOOD sharp blade is all thats needed...i love my trapper knife and always got it in my pocket... the key is a good sharp blade...most guys carry mini machetes...i dont know what in the world they are doing with those things...if they are guttin deer with somethin that size they aint doin a good job...100$ can buy you 2 or 3 real nice knives to gut deer with..... |
the other day i was at cabelas and got a gerber gator normally 89.99 now 69.99 Bell & Carlson glass filled nylon handles stainless steel 4 inch blade with or without a gut hook. the knife is absolutly awesome i love it have been using it a bunch and just like every gerber i have had the blade holds an edge for a very long time
my other knife is a buck 110 and for the price/product i dont think you can beat it has been around forever |
You can go to walmart and pick up a $20 knife with a guthook.

Folding Alpha Hunter by Buck knives.... The site will show retail at $105, but I got mine for somewhere around $69.99.. heavy duty, sharp as hell, gut hook, camo, everything i wanted..

Go onto the Trad gang website and forums and look for Robtattoo ( he's a knife maker ) , he makes an amazing knife called the Huntsman for around the money you wanna spend . You won't regret it , i got mine 14 months ago and love it . He moved from England , UK to Tenessee , USA early this year .
I JUST FOUND HIS WEBSITE . I'm not sure if he still uses this website , but go check them it out and get in touch . http://www.robtattooknives.com/ |
What is the safety issue with blood and a wooden handle????
|
My two criteria for "deer cleanin'" blades are simple: 1) a stout, fixed blade 2) a durable gut hook. I bought this knife last year http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...set=ISO-8859-1
i couldnt be happier with it. does all it needs to do and for the price they are selling it at right now......you cant beat it. |
|
well i do not want holes and cranks for the blood to sit in and become un sanitary There is a reason we are told not to cut meat on a wood cutting board. Then the issues of wood and the weather and such.
I know this wont be buying the remington i had last year out the box it would not cut my arm if i tried. I gave it to my brothers girl's brother for helping me out on a project. Thing sucked.

Buy a Buck knife the are the best for the money. Plus they are a christian based company and gives back to other christans.
Trust me buck knives are the best.... And you will not be disappointed..... |
What buck knife do you recommend. I was looking at the alpha hunter camo. Looks like a goos knife. How hard are the curved gut hook knife to sharpen.

Nuff said! |
You don't have a sink (to wash it, when you're done)?
Why would the holes in the handle bother you? |
It's tough to beat the edge you "can" put on a Buck knife. I've been carrying the same Buck personal for years and it does a fine job. I'm sure I could gut a cord of deer with it but I don't mind sharpening it between kills.
I've got better knives but I guess I just end up leaving them at home. You grow attached to the blade you favor.;) |
I have a case knife that has held up too many gut jobs.
I would also recommend a barber strop for the best finished edge. You can have both for around $70.00 |
I have found that the Leatherman Supertool is the best tool that I have used...I keep the main blade razor sharp and use the saw blade to split the hip...it is more like doing surgery on the deer than many cases I have seen with others...seldom get blood on anything but my hands...
|
I have several knives, but my Fave is my Schrade Uncle Henry. I've had it for about 15 years, and plan to keep it another 15.
|
thanks guys. I am thinking a buck knife plus a folding razor blade knife. I have one for drywall great knife never looses the blade. I will let you know what i end up with
