What was your longest kill shot?
I was just thinking about how far I am comfortable shooting a deer and wanted to hear some stories about some long shots. Try to block your fisherman instincts and try not to embelish. I am comfortable practice shooting at fifty yards, but I have never killed a deer past 30yds. I have never really needed to shoot any farther than that, it always seem like they are either 30 or closer or 75 or farther. I have heard of people shooting and killing deer at 70yds. but I don't know if I believe that. I know my brother can stack em up at 60yds. shooting at a foam target with his Switchback. C'mon give me some good stories!

I've taken 2 deer at 41 yards and one at 42.

I hunt thick woods maybe 20 yards is the longest 7 yards was the shortest

I've been tempted to throw an arrow out at a deer at 50 yards, but I don't have the confidence in myself making a good, clean kill shot. I prefer the deer between 12 and 20 yards, but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one out at 35-40 yards if I had a broadside or quartering away shot with a clean flight path for the arrow.
Its all up to the shooter and how comfortable they are with their equipment. |
I practice out to 60 yards but my longest shot on an animal was 32 yards right in the heart. Deer died at 45 yards. ;)
