I've not heard from his wife today- I'm hopeful that I'll hear from her sometime tonite after she gets back from the hospital

You got it brother. Prayers sent. All you can really do is be there for him during this time. Try to make him feel as comfortable as possible. Visit him as much as it is possible for you to do so.
