I do chew. Does it affect my hunt? I believe that it does to a certain degree. Smoking also effects anyone's hunt also to a certain degree. I can honestly say that I have never had a buck coming in and spook due to me chewing. Wind direction is EVERYTHING! The best practice is not to chew or smoke. But no one is perfect! I may chew, but I don't sound like a herd of elephants coming through the woods like some hunters!

Smoke or chewing doesn't matter. Deer don't recognize that smell as being a threat. Humor odor equals threat. Smoking and chewing equals cancer

Anything but what is in the woods/deers surroundings are foreign to them, and they will notice it. Reacting to it is a different story. They may not care, they may run off:confused2:

My dad smoked in stand up until 3 years ago and has taken quite a few p&y and a booner(gross) and he never had an issue with it. He always has preached the wind, and stand height...

My buddy was smoking in the stand tonite and right as he finished it, a doe showed up and was in range for 15 minutes. It never acted skiddish or noticed his presence. He shot the deer at about 11yards.

Id say do it until it doesnt work for you. If you notice that deer are busting you, dont do it. If the affects are unnoticeable, have at it:party0007:

First Off, Let me state that there are NO stupid/ridiculous questions. If you don't know or are unsure of something and you don't ask, you may never know. So keep on asking!

I have seen hunters who get dressed when they arrive at their stand site. Wearing their Sent Blocker charcoal clothing and spraying a gallon of scent killer on. When they get back to camp telling tales of how they were busted in the stand, and they weren't moving. I know many others who have to put their butts out so they can take their shot. Point being, if you smoke or dip in the stand and you see plenty of deer and get your harvest, Don't Fix What's Working For You!!

I've shot a few deer while smoking, and observed a lot more, I don't think it bothers them until they learn there is danger behind that smoke, heck campfire smoke is a good cover scent.. thing that bothers me with smoke are those fellas with the big diesel pick-ups, get within 10' of one and you smell like fuel the rest of the day, but I learned if I get in the woods before those fellas I see a lot of deer heading away from them....Thanks Dodge!
