Hunting Trip

Well my better half says that it ok if i plan a hunting trip for next year. I dont want to break the bank to go on one. So i was woundering if any Bow hunters here know of any places in NY or PA where i might find a good outfitter to go with. Any ideas

crenshaw 08-12-2009 08:25 AM

What do you want to hunt? and why have you picked NY and PA?

clos21 08-12-2009 08:28 AM

Deer and i picked NY and PA cuz i have family in NY Utica NY and if i can find a place in NY i could kill two birds with one stone and PA i really dont know just would be nice to hunt some place different

Definitely would not pick either of those states. NE has some nice hunting that can be done on a reasonable budget. Also the Dakotas would be a good place to look. Many western/midwestern states have got ridiculously high with just permit prices.

Good luck where ever you decide!!

Dan

Lets see you have a free hunting trip from the Boss Wife and you want to hunt in PA or NY. Get a grip Son! You can do way better than dem 2 states by a country mile! Good Luck in your quest

what kind of budget are you on because that would help to get the best hunt for the money.

going to ontario bear hunting can be done at a modest price. along with many deer hunting ventures.

once you know what budget you have then the 'real' ideas can come from us.

Sounds like the wife is tagging along to visit family while he is out in the woods, probably why he has to stick to NY and PA. I understand it is nice to hunt a different area, try them out, have a blast and make some new memories.

Now on the other hand, if the wife hands you a blank check, well then you must upgrade where you make your new memories ;)

Don't over look OHIO. There are plenty of deer here.

clos21 08-12-2009 03:46 PM

Will as for a cash limit its about 1500 maybe a tad bit more.... And its just me she not going this time. And the reason i pick NY or PA is like i said i have fam in NY Grandmother I would like to get up there before she passes on so i thought i would go hunt as well. Ohio I didnt think about that maybe i could try some public land there. Not to far for me to drive im in the SE corner of MI so i could try that too..... Plus the boss is not ready to let me go to Ill, MT, KS which is were i would like to go. She says that she would worry to much. So that where im am at this point.

fishinty 08-12-2009 05:07 PM

For ny I would recomend the lucky star ranch and for pa full fan lodge .

clos21 08-12-2009 05:11 PM

Thanks fishinty ill check them out.............

Yeah Kansas is a pretty dangerous place.

bearklr 08-13-2009 04:53 AM

I've hunted Pa my entire life and I would have to recommend NY. Not that Pa doesn't have any deer and not that some of the deer can't be monsters. I just think that in your situation NY seems to make more sense. First off, you can visit family which seems important to you (as it should be). Second, you can hunt Sundays in NY and in Pa you can't. If your taking a one time trip I'd want to maximize the days I could hunt.

clos21 08-13-2009 06:36 AM

Im leaning more towards NY bearklr. I think i found a place about 1/2hr from grandma. Im going to give them a call today.......
thanks

cterbow 08-13-2009 06:44 AM

you are a good man. going to see grandma.

but with that budget i would say a trophy black bear would have my name on it in ontario.

tag a good one in NY i hope you get one.

NCRemington700 08-13-2009 06:24 PM

Make time for 2 trips. One for the family so ya'll can go see Grandma together and one trip for you so you can hunt where YOU want.

My friend, you could quite easily do a DIY back country camping elk hunt for that sort of money, I'm leaving in 3 weeks for exactly that!!!! I'd also say that IL and KS are probably safer than hunting in places like the Adirondacks or Upstate NY. Missouri is my pick if I'm going on an out of state deer hunt, but when I can go after elk, for a few coins more, that's where my money is going.

And if you're in the SE corner of MI and you've never snuck across the border, you're missing some fine opportunities within a couple hours driver of your home!!!!

clos21 08-14-2009 05:22 AM

I know you guys are right. But i still would like to try it out and i do want to go and see my grandma. Oh i forgot to mention that i am going on a whitetail hunt in Indiana next year as well. going with my father-in-law 5 day hunt. He called me yesterday to remind me i totaly forgot about that. so going to see my grandma and getting in some hunting while im there would be just what the Doc ordered.....
