And no, I'm not saying Lone Wolf's is the ultimate climbing stick -- but I am saying that applying Ultimate Camo's new cloth tape to WHICHEVER climbing stick you currently use will make it the ULTIMATE stick it can be!!

I've had these sticks for several years now, and never was happy with the outline they left at the base of my tree while I was stealthily concealed over 20' above. I wondered about deer's ability to see them even though I shot plenty out of the setup with them, but especially moreso about human passersby being able to pick out out my setup since I predominatly hunt public land. I've let people walk on by me while using my climber, but it's a lot easier to spot a climbing stick stuck on the side of a tree at eye level. Well... not any more!

When Andy Cuttitta launched his new camoflauge company a couple years ago, I immediately saw personal applications for his new product. I eagerly contacted him, begging him to bring out a camo tape that I could apply to my climbing sticks and trail cameras. Thankfully, the owner of Ultimate Camo was already on the ball and in negotiations with several companies to determine who could do the best job in helping bring the tape to market.
I patiently waited until production started, and received my order earlier this week... Before I proceed any further, it's probably best I clarify since most people know I'm involved in the bowhunting industry, working with several manufacturers and writing for a couple different outdoor magazines: I am in no way affiliated with Ultimate Camo any more than anyone else who's watched Andy bring his dream to fruition by following along with the success of the company through keeping tabs using the bowhunting forums.

Here's the results of applying the Ultimate Camo cloth tape to my LW sticks. I removed all the hardware, and flipped the stick over on its side and ran the tape down the length of it, letting the tape overlap onto the front face. Doing this, the "overlap" fell just beyond the halfway point on the front -- ensuring that my next pass from the OTHER side would more than meet the first strip and cover the front entirely. In other words, I started the tape on the SIDE and let the overlap fall to the front. After pressing the tape firmly down, I flipped the stick over and taped the OPPOSITE side, and let the overlap cover the remaining half of the front.

This left a seam down the almost exact middle (there was a slight overlap) of my sticks in front, but it's almost imperceptible. Doing it this way maximizes your use of a roll of tape, and ensures that any visible part of your climbing stick is covered with Andy's awesome pattern.

I snapped these pictures out behind my house with the sun straight overhead; unfortunately, the canopy of leaves in the woods out back is so thick that I had to use my flash. The pattern blends even better -- as you could imagine -- when a powerful strobe light isn't reflecting off every part. :) Still ... awesome results.

Here's a closeup of how I applied the tape... starting on the SIDE, leaving the back of the stick exposed. You can't see the back no matter how closely you look once it's hung on a tree... and this ensures you'll only need two passes of the tape to cover all three sides.

I'm a big fan of clean lines. By removing all the hardware on the stick, it not only helps making the application process a cinch, it looks really professional when you reinstall the steps and stop bolts back onto the sticks...

Two rolls of tape will cover 2 1/2 Lone Wolf sticks... So if you have four sticks as I do, you'll need to order four rolls of tape, leaving you some left over to trick out an extra trail cam. Now, if I can just talk him into making camoflauge straps to hold my sticks to the trees. Hmmm....
