RE: Slowest Speed
From my new bow, I want at least 250 fps for a 400+ grain arrow. However, this much speed isn' t necessary to kill a deer. My first bow--a Darton SL50 was accurate, but slow. I killed my first deer, a very large doe, with an arrow that had chronographed 173 fps. At 25 yards, I had a complete pass-thru that left the deer piled up at 60 yards. Quite a few years later, my then 14 year old son killed his first deer--a P&Y 8 point with a double lung shot from a very short draw bow set at 51lbs. Speed is nice for distance miscalculations, but not necessary for clean kills.
