What should I do? 58 days to opening day!

Last weekend my aunt had a garage sale at her house and she accidentally sold my bow for $60. Long story short version, my dad had a spare bow he was going to sell and he told where it was at in the shed. She picked up my bow case and sold mine instead. Dads spare bow is bare (no sight, rest, stabilizer, etc.). In my bow case I had 12 carbon fiber arrows, 6 3blade rage broadheads, 12 rage target tips, my release, a PSE X-Force SS 60-70 lbs, Octane 1 piece quiver, G5 Optix XR sight, Octane Hostage Pro rest, Octane stabilizer 7", and a set of Super Quad Limbsavers. It took me 16 months to save up for that bow and now it is gone. I'm trying not to cry about this but damn.

You had about 1700.00 bow sitting in a shed? WOW

And it got sold for $60. WOW, someone got the deal of their life.

To start, I would just break down and cry, I will not think less of you. As far as what to do now? You can start looking around for a decent used bow, something that is not going to cost an arm and a leg. It will get you out in the woods this year. I guess after than, all you can really do is start saving up for you dream setup again and try to move forward.

As a side note, my dad's grandma sold his is completly restored 1967 Mustang in a garage sell for $200. She thought she done him a huge favor.

The Outdoorsman 07-30-2009 06:09 AM

Wow, someone got a steal!!!!! Sorry to hear that. Best I can recommend is take the $60 she made off your bow and put it towards some arrows to start with and then quickly piece together a sight and rest and some broadheads and get to shootin' with your dads spare bow (provided it didnt get sold too).

wis_bow_huntr 07-30-2009 06:35 AM

That sucks!! My aunt would be buying me a new bow thats for sure!

Ben / PA 07-30-2009 07:19 AM

Wow, I would make sure that the aunt knew exactly what she did for one. Secondly, I would never have stored a 1700 dollar item in a shed. Sorry for your luck, I hope you can find something to shoot for the season.

How long ago??? You may find a kind heart somewhere that would be willing to return the bow for a REWARD!!! It's worth a try.... Post an ad in the local paper, pleading your case and see what happens. There are still a few HONEST people out there.

Otherwise, I'd start looking on AT classified for a new bow, and work it from there. Sorry for your loss.....:s14:

superstrutter 07-30-2009 07:56 AM

I would definately try to find the person who bought the bow and explain to them what happened. Hopefully they would be understanding. Give them a little more than the $60 they paid, that is if they are willing to give it up. If they aren't willing to part with the bow, then kill your aunt, but make it look like an accident.:s1:

There also may be a clause in your homeowner's insurance that covers this......:confused0024: Certainly worth a shot. Even if you have to pay the deductible, it's still worth it unless you have a $1500 deductible.

crokit 07-30-2009 08:18 AM

I would slap the F%&*ing $%1t out of her. Relax, just kidding.

OHbowhunter and superstrutter have good advice. Maybe can track down who bought it and work a deal? Be worth a shot. If not, you still have some time. I wish you luck.

Kill your Aunt???

deer-pendable 07-30-2009 09:51 AM

visit www.topshotarchery.com then email me if you see something you like I will work out the best deal I can for you. I have been there, years ago my mom sold my fly rod thinking no one used that long rod at a garage sale for like ten dollars. If you want to get something new and a complete package email [email protected] and I will take care of you the best I can.

mconwa951 07-30-2009 11:32 AM

I had my bow get stolen and was able to turn it into the homeowners insurance and they paid me the entire amount all of the accs and bow were worth minus the 250 deductable. worth a shot to check into.

RyanJ17059 07-30-2009 12:17 PM

If you had your bow scheduled on your HO policy (as you should do with ALL your bows and firearms; trust me, I'm an insurance agent ;) ), you could definitely turn it in if you were unable to track down the buyer and try to make a deal to get it back. Alternatively, your AUNT'S homeowners could pick up the tab, as she is the one who was responsible for your property walking away. That's why we HAVE insurance, after all. Not the first time this same situation has happened. Otherwise, keep a close eye on local classifieds to see if it turns up. It's likely the buyer knows it is an expensive bow and will try to make some quick cash.

My dad lives on the back of her property and we shoot our bows daily on a little range he has set up. Rather than carry my bow back and forth everyday I leave it in the shed (It has its own security system). Yes it was a 1700.00 dollar setup that I talked the local shop down to 1200.00.

boldplate 07-30-2009 02:47 PM

wow that sucks. Let us know how things work out.

I told my aunt about calling her insurance company and trying to go that route. We are waiting to hear back from them. Just to rub salt in the wounds I recieved archery quota permits in the mail yesterday. One location I recieved a permit for only allows 25 hunters a year on it and they break it up into 5 three day hunts(5 hunters per hunt). We have a cell tower we maintain on the property and normally see 5-10 deer feeding down the guide wire paths every time we go there.

SteveBNy 08-08-2009 03:40 AM

Best $60 I ever spent:biggrin:

LOL, that's funny

Sorry about your bad luck....man I'd be pissed for sure. Good luck finding it, I'd be on the hunt over at AT for a good used one right now. You can probably be all set up with something decent for a few hundred bucks...enough to get you through this season anyhow.

mohunter82 08-08-2009 06:47 AM

hey man i got a fred bear TR3000 bow. i would have to try and find some arrows that would work on it. i would be willing to make a sweet deal on it just so you can get out in the woods. or if ya want just cover the shipping on it to you and ill let ya use it till you can get back yours or a new one. all i need to do is put a new tube on the peep site. its not a PSE but it would get ya back in the woods. let me know if ya wanna see it.
Sorry bout the bad luck man my aunt would be kissing my ass for eternity. im talking free food free everything.

buck_hunter_87 08-08-2009 10:30 PM

not to be mean but she would be giving me garage sale money... lol

Great advice. It had to be someone local. And if you do manage to track them down, hopefully they will have enough sense to realize that it is worth much more then they paid for it, and can clearly see it was a mistake...if they haven't already resold it for a much bigger profit. Check your local papers classified also, you just might see it in there.

The insurance claims adjuster met with all of us this past Saturday(8-22-09):s10::s10:. He was impressed with everything I had as proof of ownership(reciepts, owners manual for the bow, owners manual for the case, etc):s1:. He told us we should be hearing from them this week some time. Today my father informed me that he recieved a letter from them yesterday:s1:. It was a check!!!:cool2:. They paid me for everything in full minus the state sales tax:cry:. I just got off th phone with Adam at http://www.huntersfriend.com/ :happy0157::happy0157:. He said my bow should be here in 7-10 business days!!!

BvrHunter 08-26-2009 07:33 AM

Woooooooooooow man good for you !!!!!!!!! Still have time to get it set up and start shooting too. Amazing how things work out......... Good luck with everything

wihunter402 08-26-2009 07:47 AM

WOW. I would not have thought the insurance company would pay for something like that. What company is it? Just knowing that they did that for you makes me want to review my policy and maybe change to your company. That is awesome for you and I am glad to hear you will be set back up and shooting soon.
