Deer pics from atop a windmill on a hot afternoon

Like many of you, I don't do much Summer scouting except for what I can do with binos from a distance, but the farm where these pics were taken is having a bit of a "hog" problem so I decided to sit the water hole yesteday evening.

No hogs but I saw lots of deer ( I lost count @ 30). Here are a few of the better pics I took.

Here is the same deer a few seconds later when he hit my wind channel. He is about 70 yards out.

And when he hit the wind channel carrying my scent

These guys crossed through the wind channel, but at about 20 yards, hence they didn't bust as the scent must have blown over them.

A little grainier pic as it was getting late and I moved up my ISO setting.

No. Not one deer ever busted my exact location, but as I indicated several detected my scent and blew out of there without worrying about my exact location.

I had multiple doe and bucks that did not bother circling downwind before approaching that were drinking not 5-15 yards away without ever going on alert or looking up. Of course all deer are a little less guarded (at least in our country) during the summer.

Even though I was on a windmill, I have had it fixed up for bowhunting for some time. Nothing elaborate, just 2"x12"'s laid across the support braces about 18 feet up. I tied ropes across the back and weaved brush between them to prevent be silhouetted.

I will try to think and take a picture of it sometime. It is surprising how effective it compared to one's expectations when first looking at it.

Here's a couple more pics of deer coming to water unaware of my presence.

Yep, same area. Deer were few and far between 20- 25 years ago. If you told someone you saw a deer prior to 1990 they would think you'd been drinking.

Now we are overrun with them like many other parts of the country.

Nice pics!

I'd be careful getting busted this time of year. You don't want to educate them this early.
