Well Arthur. If you put a little limb load on the bow and the cams are somewhere between a round wheel and a soft cam.We may have the discrepancy.Makes since to me,I think.

Ok you guys got the KE and momentum figured out how about another variable. A carbon arrow penetrating better than an aluminum arrow of the same weight and spine.

#1) the carbon will almost be smaller in diameter resulting in less drag in the air and in the animal.

#2) Carbon is much stiffer and stronger than aluminum. This results in an arrow that resists bending and flexing much better than aluminum. The carbon arrow will recover quicker as it leaves the bow and it will transfer its' energy more directly into the target.

the diameter is smaller on carbons, but isn' t the alluminum a smoother surface (not sure about this), which would cause less surface drag? Perhaps this would be a larger force than the amount of air displaced by the front of the arrow. Wait a minute, the broadhead is what cuts througth and causes the initial hole, perhaps arrow diameter is even less important unless you have smaller tips on.

Personally I don' t know, and REALLY don' t care about the minute details of archery physics, but I like to though wrenches into other peoples calculations.:D

There is some good info in that link c903 but he never even mentioned momentum.Wonder why?

I disagree with his minimum weight. My goodness,he was using a draw length of 31" @ 70#' s.If he wants to use that for himself, then that is fine and with that setup I would agree with him.425 gr may even be a bit light for him.If someone shoots 24" draw at 40# then I would think a lighter arrow might be a better choice.I just don' t like the generalizations.

I totally agree with shoot what groups best and not totally worrying about weight. The best flying arrow is going to penetrate best.Doesn' t matter how heavy the arrow is(to a point). If it doesn' t fly well, then it doesn' t penetrate well.
