Stingers sharp enough?
 

i just got a pack of magnus stinger 4 blade broadheads. I was wondering if these need to be sharpened or if out of box they are good enough to knock down animals. how do you sharpen them if you do?

They should be more than sharp enough out of the box - magnus has a good reputation for making good sharp heads. As for resharpening them i saw a video the other day where a guy was sharpening them. I don't remember where i saw it but if you look i'm sure you can find it.

Other than a light honing it would be tough to improve on their edge without weakening it.

Try to shave hair off your arm. If you can do it easily, they're sharp. If you can't do it they aren't.

the reason i ask is i can run my fingers over the blades with decent pressure and they do not shave arm hairs. I've even ran the over my g-5 stone and still seem very dull...

Then they need sharpening. I use Magnus myself, and it seems to me that their steel is pretty hard. It may take more than a few licks to sharpen them. Once they get sharp though, they'll stay that way.

Shaving hair is not the same as slicing through veins and arteries, hair is tougher and more resistant to cutting. The motion used to cut them is also different, you're chopping rather than slicing. Run a broadhead straight from the package across the face of a steak, if it cuts cleanly and easily the blade is sharp enough, if it drags or tears hone it.

I always touch up my Broadheads no matter what. If you have an idea what your doing it can't hurt. I'm trying the 125 grain 2 blade Stingers with bleeders this season, mine are scary sharp!
