sharp broadheads
im using my broadheads from last year (NAP thunderheads) and i got one of those cheep sharpeners at bass pro but how do i know if my heads are sharp enough to ethically slice a deer?

Two things. You should be able to easily shave with the blade....and if the broadhead is layed on a stretched rubber band, and moved (attached to arrow) without you using any downwards force and it splits the rubber band instantly without any sliding.... if it does both of these its sharp enough.... mine always do and i sharpen them myself....

I know that those cheap sharpeners where you pass theedge through carbide blades work, but they just shave the metal andtend to produce a weak feathery edge.It'll pass the rubber band test and shave hair, but they dull easily when it hits a deer. I use my Lansky sharpening kit, it hones the edge and the guide rods keep the sharpening angle perfect so it produces a sharp but strong edge.
