I don't know much about trad hunting yet (last year was my first year and I missed twice[:@]). I'm shooting a Bear Montana - 55# @ 28", and as recommended by quite a few of the trad hunters in the trad forum, I'm shooting 2 blade Magnus Stingers. I decided to forego the chance at "obliterating damage" and go instead with a head that will give me greater penetration. Visit the Trad Forum. They'll be better able to answer your more specific questions, but unless you're something along the lines of 6' 6" and you're drawing that thing back 30 or more inches, I'd stick with a smaller cut (1 1/8" - no bleeders) and try for a passthrough instead of a lot of blade that'll drain your KE/momentum.

You could probably get away with a well sharpened 3 blade Snuffer (1 1/4 cutting diameter) but If It was me I think I'd stick with a 2 blade head Instead. My favorite Is the vented 2 blade Magnus II.

I've also heard excellent reports on the single bevel 2 blade heads as well, there's more damage Inflicted with them then most think (something to do with the single bevel design and the circular motion).

My advice would be this:

1. Make sure your bow is tuned to the BH you choose, perfectly.
2. Make sure your BH's are razor sharp.

Good luck.

I shoot this head from a 50# PSE Kudu at the same draw length as you, sometimes they go right through my 3-D, the poor thing is shredded now. LOL

I've killed 38 Biggame animals with a recurve & mostly wood arrows with a 3 blade Broadhead-from 45#s to 60#s-mostly 55#s.
Black Bear (55#s)-Elk (55#s), Whitetail (45#s55#s), Wild Hogs (52#s).

I've shot 2 blade, 3 blade & 4 blades with recurve& a 3 blade always flys good.

I now shoot a compound (100+ animals) & since mid 70s have shot 3 Blade Rocky Mountains. Currently 3 blade Ironheads.

Pic-1965 55#s shot at 30 yds& traveled 30 yds.

good Luck-go with a 3 blade-shot placement makes the difference.
