What is this?

I went to retrieve my trail cam pics today ( Saturday-6/13/09) and came across this picture of this certain critter. I myself think it's a groundhog. After a couple of my hunting buddies saw the picture they had different oppinions. One friend think's it a beaver, one friend thinks it's a fisher and yet another friend seems to think it's a very large musk rat.
What do you guys think it is?

RE: What is this?

def not a muskrat as muskrats have thin tail like a rat or possum-

Tail does not look quite wide enough for a beaver, and the tail on that thing has hair

I don't think it looks like a fisher at all (which looks more like a mink or marten).

Doesn't look a groundhog either- face looks wrong- I'm stumped.

dang thing looks like a wombat to me, but it would have to be someones pet that escaped- I think they are native to OZ?

This picture was taken from my trail camera in Southwestern, Pennsylvania. There is no water source near, only a small creek.

Wow! More often than not when I see a pic posted because some one doesn't know what type of animal it isi I start towonder ....how can you not know? If there is anyone that looks at that pic and in 2 sec. or less doesn't know that it is a common ground hog/whistle pig..........

Now I understand why I read about hunters being mistaken for game........ Gee warden he looked like a big beaver to me?!.. Look at his teeth!

My apologies, I didn't think about the fact that groundhogs might be uncommon in some parts of the country.

TreednNC 07-22-2009 04:52 AM

Body of a groundhog, and I see probably 100 a week or so....but Ill be danged if I ever seen a blonde one. Most of the ones around here are dark rusty brown colored.
