Scenerio
You have a 125 class buck at 18 yards looking away. There is also a 150 class buck at around 40 yards with a twig that "could" be in the way about half-way there. Shooting light is fading fast, it's now or never, what do you do?
(ps I'm board) ;) |
RE: Scenerio
Hope you work out that boardom.[8D]
I SMOKE the 125, especially on film, and not even look back....that would be 30+" bigger than my previous archery buck. Then return the next week to get the cameraman that 140 with roles reversed.;) |
RE: Scenerio
political answer= if iwas intensely managing a farm i let the 125 walk, real world answer i smoke him and he gets a free ride home in the dodge
|
RE: Scenerio
I pass on both because, hey, they are not mature deer ;).
|
RE: Scenerio
The 125" is still (at least) 15" bigger than anything I've ever seen in my woods.
He's also on the outer edge of what I feel comfortable shooting (range). First buck anywhere near that size that gives me a shot opportunity.....is gonna get shot........at. |
RE: Scenerio
125, 105.5, 107.7 all get shot if they are within range.
|
RE: Scenerio
I shoot the 125 .
|
RE: Scenerio
The smaller one Is close to my minimum (130") but they would both walk unless the smaller one was an old deer and wasn't going to amount to much In the future. The 150 Incher would definitely get the pass being that's way out of range for me.

RE: Scenerio
I'd probably think about that twiglong enough to loseshooting light on the 150", and in the mean time the 125" would have wondered off. But they're both still out there.:)

RE: Scenerio
hold out for a 160 or bigger and let them both go

I shoot at the 150
|
RE: Scenerio
Honest answer. I'd be really tempted to shoot the 150, and probably have to try a shot. It's not the right answer, but its honest.
|
RE: Scenerio
i woul drop him i am headed into my 6th year i have yet to drop a deer. i hate to say it if it is brown and i can see the zone i will let it go.
|
RE: Scenerio
Well, I would shoot the 125, would be my largest kill w/ bow...
|
RE: Scenerio
Shoot the 150 , and let 125 be the boss for the year. The 125 might be bigger then the 150 in acouple of years. You already know
where he hangs out:) |
RE: Scenerio
Just one twig?
Squat down a little and smoke the 150. |
RE: Scenerio
I would give the 140-150 deer a beat down. I have what I invision as the scenerio and I am not thinking it to be thick? If I dont have a shot I dont throw one down there for poops and giggles. If it is ethical I smoke the bigger deer........

RE: Scenerio
It depends on where I'm hunting. If I'm here, home in SC, then the 125 will get shot...we don't have 150s! :D If I have this "problem" come the last week of October this fall while in Illinois....the 125 gets a pass and I'm shooting at the 150.
|
RE: Scenerio
If the 150 is nice and calm, he is getting an arrow thrown in his direction without a second thought.
