RE: Chest shot?

First of all I have never taken the shot but found it interesting that others I have known have attempted it on elk and even got decent penetration while still losing the animals. I would consider it on a deer at less than ten yards but an elk is out of thee question.

RE: Chest shot?

heart shots arent effective??? Man thats a first!!! Dbl lungs are nice, heart shots are even better. Hard to tell with the situation as different critters act differently with the exact same situation! The deer I heart shot last year ran about 15 yards and walked another 20-25 yards before piling up. I shot a shoulder shot on a doe, busted the rib on the other side (go zwickeys <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>) and she ran about 60-70 yards! That deer could have been pushed by nothing more then a fox as it was getting out of town, spooked before ya shot it, you could have started trailing too soon, who knows! I also have had a buddy heart shoot a buck and it lived till morning! Dont ask me how, the buck couldnt get up but it was sure alive! Heck I was there and still dont believe that one but to say a heart shot isnt effective.....
