Here in PA the law states that you must have at least 35 pounds of draw weight. I'd like to see that number up to 45 personally. Shot placement is ALWAYS key though.;)

In NH the lowest draw weight was 45 lbs., but they dropped it to 40 lbs. a few years back.
So check with your state first.

Easily just as BHotty said!! I know many people who've shot whitetails and bear pulling 35 to 40lbs.

RE: will 35-40lb draw drop a white tail?

Well it won't drop them unless you spine em, haha, But 35-40 is plenty for making a clean kill on whitetails. My brother shot his first deer with the bow with a 35lb and had a complete pass thru at 18 yards, deer went 50 yards, and my gf shot her first deer this last year with 38lbs at 16 yards, no pas thru hitting of shoulder but the huge doe only went 80 yards. Here it the video of the gfs kill. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.a...=&#3361463
Low poundage just has distance limitations thats all, under 30 yards is perfect. WCL

You bet!!! Idaho has a 40# weight minimum and people shoot bear and mules with them all the time. Just like anything in bow hunting it is all about shot placement and sharp broadheads.

I hunt deer with a 48lb osage, and feel confident. I have not dropped a deer yet with it. But I am shooting a 500gr arrow at 150fps.

A modern compound at 40lb would smoke those numbers. Only thing I have over you is, I am dead quiet on the shot.

RE: will 35-40lb draw drop a white tail?

Here in IL, 40# is our minimum and it is more than capable of killing any whitetail cleanly. In fact, todays 40 lbs compounds have considerably more energy that a lot of traiditional bows that many hunters still hunt with. It's all about shot placement of a razor sharp b-head. Best of luck to your lil' youth hunter.

thanks a lot guys.. a girl friend of mine wanted to shoot my bow @ 55# and it's impossible for her considering she's only 5'2" @ 105lbs.. hahaha.. Small chick. She enjoys the outdoors a lot and i just wanna make sure she get some of the action too.

Up here in Maine the law is no less than35 lbs. So it wouldn't be any problem provided a razor sharp 7/8 inch or greaterbroadhead is used.. But as others have stated check your local laws first..

RE: will 35-40lb draw drop a white tail?

yea but you would have to check on your state regulations like here in SD you can have a min of 40 lbs. i am sure it could do the job!!

should be just fine with good shot placement, check state laws.

no you need at least a 45-50 to actually get a good hard hit on a whitetail.

RE: will 35-40lb draw drop a white tail?

Yes it will. My uncle has a messed up shoulder and shoots 28 pounds and they pass through with no problem, but it depends on where you hit them.

Better keep that your little secret because all those trad shooters get the job done with less energy.
