Long or short grunts for early whitetails?

Before the bucks start to rut, what' s the best call to use? I' ve tried long grunts, short grunt, bleats, and even light rattling but nothing seems to work. If anyone here has used alot of calls, I' d like to know which one sounds most like a deer.

I generally like to use short, soft doe bleats in the early season, till up to about the end of October I' ll switch to the grunt call. Sounds like if you' re not getting any response from deer that you can see, it' s possible your not calling loud enough for them to hear you. There' s a good CD you can get that plays real deer making calls that might help you. I believe the link is www.whitetailtalk.com
