A right or wrong way to position decoys?

I usually just set my turkey hen decoys out facing broadside or facing away from me. My friend that I do alot of hunting with informed me today that he had heard that your supposed to position your decoys facing yourself. Because the tom will circle around and postion himself so he is looking at the face of the hen. This way you can draw your bow without the tom seeing you. Is this how you guys all do it?

Thanks,
Kash

I set mine up the same way you do.
The incoming gobbler tends to stare in the same direction that the hen is facing and I don't want that gobbler picking me out....besides.........he really wants to get to the rear of the hen anyways.....I'm sure you catch my drift.
On the other hand I will set up a jake decoy facing me since the incoming gobbler will more than likely want to get in its face and challenge it.

hen should be broadside or facing away. a jake should always be toward you.

Yes thats what I thought......I always seemed to think that the tom would approach the hen from behind. I have had pretty good success over the past couple years with the way I have been doing it so I think ill stick to that.:D

a full strut would be the same as your jake. he will approach from the side or the front. when he confronts the strutter he will attack it straight on or from the side. either way you will get a good shot. wait till he is facing away and then you draw and wait for your shot.

I HUNT OUT OF BLINDS I PLACE A FULL STRUT TOM OR JAKE ABOUT 10 YARDS FROM MY BLIND FACING ME. I THEN PLACE A HEN OVER FROM THE TOM FACING AWAY FROM ME OR QUATERING AWAY. MOST OF THE TIME A TOM WILL COME IN AND GO TO THE FULL STRUT DECOY AND FACE IT THE SAME WITH A JAKE DECOY ALSO. I HAVE USED JUST HEN DECOYS AND HAD TOMS GO TO THE BACK OF THE DECOY. IF YOU USE A BLIND SET AS FAR BACK IN IT AS YOU CAN AND TRY TO DRAW YOUR BOW SLOWLY. GOOD HUNTING.
