Missouri bow hunters
 

This season will be my first season bow-hunting in Missouri. I' ll be hunting in Cass county, south of Kansas City. Any tips tricks for that time of year? What will I see Oct. 1? Should I wait and not go out opening week? How should I call at that time of year? Scents? Any help would be great! Thanks.

not really, that was asking about the land. I' m curious about hunting pre-rut, during rut, post rut... :D just called out my hunting area for anyone that area who might be more familiar with the deer' s system. I' ve only hunted deer once (last season) so I' m a rookie. Don' t know if it' s the same everywhere, some places, not the same anywhere... see what I mean?

BTW, I only posted that message once, the server put it out there twice somehow, or a moderator moved it or something... my memories bad, but it' s not THAT BAD!

I was just giving you crap. The deer will not be rutting very hard during opening week, but there will be rutting activitiy. I sat a scrape line the first Saturday of October last year (yes, a scrape line), and saw 11 deer by nine o' clock, including three bucks (a 7-point and two 8-pointers). Both 8-points came in a different times and worked the nearest scrape to me. The 8 and the 7 had a sparring match 15-yards from my stand.

During the rut, I would see upwards of 30 deer in a morning, and 5 or so different bucks. I do not use any rutting scents during early October, but do use cover scents. I use my grunt call sparingly, and only if I see a buck.

By the way...I fished Cass county last Saturday and caught a bunch of decent largemouth.

WOW... see those are the stories I' m die' n for... If, as a rookie [&:], I get annoying just say so... BUT, can you define scrape line? Do you mean various scrapes in a row?

I got fishin' fever bad right now... have to move this weekend so I have to put off a heavy-duty fishing day for yet another week!!! ARGH [:@]

Don' t worry about it....I' m getting a little anxious myself. I' m heading to Vernon county for two days of turkey hunting this weekend. That ought to calm my nerves.

A scrape line is just what you think it is; a series of scrapes that form a line. I' ve found them to be more productive vs. hunting just, say, one large scrape. They seem to get active early and stay that way. In this part of Missouri, we find scrape lines in fingers of woods and trees in CRP fields. It is a little unusual to find them in October, but if you do, you' re usually set for a good hunt.

If I were you, I' d try and hunt the first week of October.
