Grim Reapers....

Would like to hear opinions good, indifferent, and bad from those folks WHO HAVE ACTUALLY USED these heads. Season is many months away, but I'm trying to gather info on all the new (to me) heads that capture my interest.

Please start your own thread if you would like to bach mechs in general. Thanks :)

RE: Grim Reapers....

I've been bowhunting for two seasons with them. Eight Grim Reapers shot at deer. Eight full pass-throughs. Eight dead deer. The pass-throughs can be attribued to my setup though, and not the broadhead. They kill quickly, require no o-rings or rubber bands, group extremely well and are a piece of cake to tune.

Now for the negatives from a Grip Reaper shooter. For one, they're not sharp enough. Two of my kills were hard quartering shots. Both animals went down quickly, but each shot caught some gut and the blades pulled some of the gut with it and blocked the exit hole resulting in practically no blood trail. This is complicated by theother negative, and that is in most cases, the entrance hole is very small because the blades don't open until they're past the hide. The exit hole is ghastly, though.

All in all, I see no reason to change. They've proven to be very dependable and well made. Make a good shot and the deer isn't going far at all. Only one has been ruined by the shot, and that was because it hit rocky ground after the pass-through.

The above post is good stuff. I'm using them, and my hunting partner is too. I, unfortunately didn't kill anything this year, altough my two misses were spectacular. My friend, he killed 6 this year, all devastating exit holes. All deer went down quickly. We were together for two kills, so I guess I have first hand kill experience. Very impressive trauma internally, short track jobs.

JeffB,

My brother-in-law and I both tried them last year. He shot a huge 10pt with one and hit it in the shoulder. Absolutely no penetration. Waited two hours before tracking and then looked for two days, no deer. We never found more than tiny specs of blood for about the first 100yds, and then nothing. After negative experiences with this head and Spitfires, we have both sworn off of mech. for good. That's just our experiences.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

This past year was the first I've hunted with these heads. I shot a buck and a doe with the 100gr. razor tip and had pass thrus on both deer. Both deer were down within sight. Some people say they don't have the best entrance holes, but I didn't have any complaints. Both entrance and exit holes were devestating.

RE: Grim Reapers....

Jeff, I have not shot these...or any other mechanical ever- however, I recently watched a dvd my friend gave me called Broadhead Mythbusting: Science vs Opinion. It was a grim reaper dvd, andshowed grim reapers vs. plenty of other top heads, including rage and snypers, and even fixed heads like Muzzy & Thunderhead. They did all types of tests, and in all of themthe reapers didincredibly well. Honestly I was impressed. They even did awesome shooting through a steel drum, most of the other mechs fell apart. I am not a mechanical guy, as many of you probably know - but if I was, I would give these a try. Their design seems alot better than many of the others on the market, and their strength seemed VERY good, especially compared to others. I can't vouch for them personally, but they are the first mech head I have ever even considered trying.

Edit to say: I do have a friend that shoots these exclusively, the one with the trocar tip which ever one that is. He swears by them, and has a ton of success with them. I have seen some of the holes, pretty awesome. He's the one that gave me the dvd.
