Hey this is a stupid question I know but. why is it that deer grow nontypical racks?

It can be many reasons, injury, genetics, etc.A lot of Bucks tend to add more non typical points with age also.

There's your answer... Also, if a buck gets injured on one side of his body, he'll likely grow a weird antler on the opposite side. I watched a qdma show recently where they talked about this phenomenon. My guess is it usually comes down to genetics and age though
