08 82nd Airborne guys/roller guide fix

Most of us removed the upper string stopper from Bowtechs' brain fart of the poor idea to put a string stopper on the end of the roller guide. This left an ugly hole to look at and an unclean look. Bowtech refused to sell us 09 roller guides as they and everyone knows that the only difference between the 08 and 09 was they ditched this dumb string stopper and put one down low where everybody puts them. Well, I couldn't stand that hole any more, so I hack sawed it off, grinded it, shaped it, sanded it, and painted it today. I also painted my camo P.O.S. brand string stopper black to match it. Much better imo.

That looks really good! You did a great job on it.

I think I would be too afraid to take to mine with a hacksaw![&:]

lol...easy...took me a whole half an hour to complete and get ready for paint. Just remove the rollers, hacksaw, grind/shape, sand, paint, reinstall.

I'm impressed.

I'm currently shooting it with both stops, the upper Bowtech and a lower MeanV. I don't know why, the MeanV is all it needs.

Here are some..but none of the end facing the shooter..there is also a hole that is smaller than a pencil that used to house the factory string stopper. Some people had issues with the factory string stopper blocking their site pic, throwing brass nocks off of their string, and turning their D loops.

Looks good! I still need to get a MeanV on the bottom, and then I will remove the factory stopper. I might just trim mine down like this.

RE: 08 82nd Airborne guys/roller guide fix

Personally, It's not a huge issue for me. I just wanted the stopper out of the way, that's what was distracting, eventually I may do this, but I don't mind it the way it is. I like having the option. Like the other day, I wore out my stopper (Mean V) and I ordered another, so for the time being I slapped the stock on back in. It was nice to have that option. :D

Email from my Bowtech dealer. Others on AT got the same reply from their Bowtech dealers,"
Bowtech will not sell any of the parts to convert a 2008 82nd into a 2009 version.
They say doing that would de-value the new 2009 models if it were that easy to upgrade.
They recommend just removing the top stopper and buying aftermarket for the STS.
Sorry, I tried."

thanks for the ifo makesyou have second thoughts about bowtech support doesnt it how can it devalue a bow thats about the same price as the year before? in my opinion it would only increase bowtechs credibility if there where prepared to help but hey maybe next time it wont be a bowtech i buy

So what if you damaged the roller guard on your 2009 82nd Airborne...wouldn't BowTech sell you a roller guard ?...I'm sure they would/should.
Your solution is to say you need the roller guard for an 09 Airborne...simple!
If being honest doesn't work, then it's obvious that they want you to be dishonest...seems like the only way it will work, UNFORTUNATELY!!!

yea. My dealer shouldn't have an issue just getting Bowtech to give him an 09 roller guide. I contacted a Bowtech corporate advisor on this site(no name given to protect him) and he refused to get me a 09 roller guide too as he was worried about his corporate position with Bowtech. It's a a dumb roller guide for petes sake.

Thanks!!! Mine is dead quiet too. The stock string stopper doesn't even have any effect on the bow once a lower string stopper is installed. It is just sitting there doing nothing but taking up space.

My guesss would be that Bowtech won't send one to YOU because they have your warranty that shows them what type of bow you've got. If you call and say you need a roller for an 09 and they show in their system that you own an 08, they know what you're up too.

I would go to a shop and see if they'll be able to order one for you.

Why not do the $100 upgrade to an 2009? A one year upgrade for $100... pretty good deal. That's what I want for Father's Day.

RE: 08 82nd Airborne guys/roller guide fix

The 09 does have laminated limbs. I replaced the rubber on the Short Stop and added a MeanV on the bottom. Super Quiet. It really impressed me all last summer and during the season as well.

THe Short Stop rpl. rubber is a great addition as it gives the string a flat place to land. The cost is very small for the benefit.

I was told the 08 has laminated limbs too, as the bows are identical. Is this correct?

Ask Pat, Bowtech Shooter, I think he'd know. I didn't think they were though. Heck, if you really want to know, just take a knife and shave off the first layer of camo!!! :D
