Spring turkeys

Guys this year I've decided I'm going to hunt turkey's with my bow for the first time... for the first time in that matter ever!!! Do you guys use the ground stalk method or the wait and call method??? Do you have to use a blind?

I think the ground blind method is the best way to get a gobbler close enough to take a shot. Ive never had much success stalking turkey with bow, thats a special breed that can do that. The ground blind setup I prefer isnt the store bought kind. I like to find a big tree thats layed over and just blend in with the tree top. A decoy will help keep the birds eyes from wandering your direction. I try to setup about 75-100 yards from where they are roosting about 30mins before daylight. If you arent sure where they are roosting use a locator call. Good luck this spring.

It takes a certain set of terrain features to effectively stalk a turkey. You need ridges, mountains, ditches, coulees, etc. Where I live, it is flat like a soccer field... you'd have a hard time stalking a turkey with a rifle.

I use a ground blind. You can still be fairly mobile and expeditious with one, but considering that you will probably be using decoys as well.... add up the bow, a chair, the blind, and decoys.... and pretty soon you'll want to hire a caddy.

Hunting Turkey is a lot of Fun!

The Ground Blind is a big advantage. I've killed several out of a blind with a bow, and only one without a Blind;)

As mentioned above the ground blind makes it a bit easier. If you do not have a ground blind and don't feel like getting one just build yourself a natural blind.
Personally, I live in an area where that is much more conducive to stalking them so I normally stalk as close as I can and then call them in the extra 30-60 yards.
