Does anyone shoot PSE??

Does anyone here shoot PSE? Seems like its all Mathews, Hoyt, BT, and Elite, nothin wrong with that though. I shot a Bow Madness yesterday and i think it outperformed the DXT, Hyperlite, AM32, Reezen, and Admiral...in my opinion of course. Just surprised to not hear of anyone shooting PSE. Ive always had great luck with them.

I'm no compound shooter (shoot a recurve) but the majority of the people who shoot compounds In my neck of the woods are Hoyt and PSE but also a few Martin and Mathews shooters as well. Yet have I saw a Bowtech around here. It really depends on where your from and what dealers are around.

Here we go...

PERSONALLY, I felt that the Bow Madness shot better than those bows. Those bows all shot great, except i wasnt a big fan of the Admiral, but thats just me. I felt the BM had a more "consistent" shot, felt better at full draw, and just was overall a more solid shooter. This is MY opinion, thats all. I was VERY high on the DXT, so this is definetly saying something.

Im just curious, what didnt you like about the admiral?

I thought it was pretty shock free, but i didnt like the handle on it, I didnt like the draw, not to mention the jerk it had when going into full draw. Just didnt like it other than the shock free shot.

Its just one of those things where if I do buy this Bow Madness, ill feel I dont have as much "bow" as i would with a Mathews, Hoyt, BT..etc. Just the feeling id get i guess. Probably isnt true though.

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

Im sure it is a great bow, PSE gets the "cheap bow" rep, which is what you were referring to i think, but here lately their bows seem to have a very solid reputation.....It also seems like worldwide, PSE is by far the choice over other brands for some reason outside of the US....could be a deception, but it seems like alot of international hunters use it for whatever reasons.

I wouldn't worry about getting a less of a bow because of the label on it. PSE is a top contender in the bow market. I would shoot whatever you liked best, then see what label it had on it.

PSE has been around a very long time and I don't see them going away anytime soon. They are contenders in the top flight of bows.

Aint it crazy how mentally challenging the sport of archery is??

Its one of those things right now that Id pull the trigger on buying the PSE, its just the Mathews grip and draw seemed so nice. Maybe I can get used to the grip on the PSE?

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

if you were blindfolded and shot the two back to back....which one would you prefer for the shot and feel? The Mathews or the PSE? That is the one you should go with.

kdsberman 01-19-2009 01:37 PM

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

I "felt" as if the PSE had a more consistent shot to it. Seemed like the arrow flew more like a bullet than the other 2 bows. Maybe i was so used to testing Mathews that I was used to their grips. I might have to get used to the PSE grip. Not to mention, i need a little work on my form anyway. The PSE was $160 cheaper too! 2 weeks until I get it, ill shoot them both again, but right now I feel as if the PSE is the more accurate bow FOR ME. Maybe its the 2" extra ATA? Maybe I need the extra ATA length for me to be accurate? I just dont know.

Jasonlester 01-19-2009 01:56 PM

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

A longer ATA bow is generaly more forgiving of form errors. So it doesn't supprize me the longer one seems better to you.

As for which bow is better. You mention you like the feel of the grip better on the mathews but the PSE shot more consistant. If your talking arrow flight etc it may be that the PSE is already setup and the Mathews is a little off. It may not realy be that its less acurate for you.

That being said go with the one you like overall better. I just hung up a PSE after 14 years of hunting with it (and it was a cheap bow) So I know they put out a good product. I just replaced it with a Bear Instinct. Price was a major factor in me buying both of these bows. The PSE was a clearance after season at Walmart bow...So cheap...It had everything and at the time fit my budget well. I added/changed a few things of the years but it was acurate to begine with and still is. But it was time. So I picked up the Bear. Again cheap for todays standards it seems @ 299.00 for the package. Added a stabilizer and some gear I already had (arrows, wrist strap, etc) and I like it as much as the PSE.

My point is make sure you like it but don't get hung up on the brand / price thing. There are many good bows from many of the manufacturers out there.

I had been shooting PSE the last 10 years (since I was 9), and just switched to Bowtech a week ago. Nothing wrongwith PSE, great product, great company. I just happened to find something that fits me a little better.

I shoot a PSE Firestorm X 2007
i love this bow. has low vibrations and is a very quiet bow (mostly from the short limbs) and has a great release (no hand shock, nice to handle) and i also am a big fan of the BEST grip. it is the best grip ive shot out of a bow. also it is a fast accurate bow that gets the job done!

I have a whole mess of critters on the wall. If they could talk, they would say PSE sucks!

It's hard to go wrong with a lifetime guarantee, a good feeling bow, and one that shoots well, eh? Shoot them all...find the one that works best for you and falls within your budget!

Good look

Well im gonna try ONE more shop tomorrow, hoping it has the Mathews S2 since ive always wanted to try that one. Maybe that shop has the missing piece ive been looking for this whole time. If i could just get a bow with the smoothness and grip of the Mathews, and the solid wall and consistent shot of the PSE and put it in one bow (Please dont say "Bowtech", because ive found that to not be the answer either).

I bought a PSE T-Bolt last year. I was in the market and shot everything I could get my hands on. I thought I would buy a Mathews because that is what everyone was shooting. Once I shot them all I went with the PSE. If fit me, I had confidence in it, and it was much cheaper than the other brands. Just my two cents. Soup

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

My first bow was a pse deer hunter, round wheels slow by today's standards heck slow when I first bought it 6 yrs ago.I shot a deer with it and it
actually died. I was so hooked after that I just had to up grade to the stuff the big boys shoot. I now shoot my 04 justice and it is slow by todays
standards but it is smooth and is draw even in zero degree weather after 2-3 hrs.My son has the pse and he shot a couple of deer with it and he also
got hooked, he now owns a tomkat 07. The old pse deer hunter is still in the family and if one of our bows go down during the season we know were a old pse and aluminum arrows that can and will take out deer.

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

I have been shooting PSE since i started bow hunting over 11 years ago and still using the same old PSE Nova I bought new back in 01. Shes served me well over the years untill this last year. Things are now changing on the bow, weak limbs, etc. Im going with an 08 or 09 PSE Stinger in the next month or so. I have shot many other competitor bows and some I really liked and others id never pick up again like the Admiral. Not that the Admiral is a bad bow, its a nice shooting bow and quiet, there is just something about the way it feels that I dont care for. Its not only the comfort, speed, and draw cycle that has kept me with PSE, its the warranty that no other company can beat. I want to know that when Im out in the woods that my bow is covered if needed at the moment of truth if something should go wrong. PSE makes a very consistant bow, it doesnt matter if its their target bows, recurves, or hunting bows, they are all consistant, as long as they are setup correctly. This goes for most bows on the market. But you just cant go wrong with a PSE. They have a wide variety of bows at a wide variety of costs to suit pretty much everyones needs and cost expendatures.

RE: Does anyone shoot PSE??

The Bow Madness was a nice bow, definetly. Im not one to have to have the FASTEST bow on the market by any means, but considering my short draw length (27"), my Firestorm is shooting 224fps. Dead on at 20 yards it drops 5-6" at 25 yards. Its ugly. I want something that WONT do that.

I had an 07 X force last year, didn't shoot it all that great. I think it was the 6" brace that got me, I went and bought an Allegiance 08 by Bowtech and love it.
