Well guy's, after making a ton of calls this morning from work, I finally made arrangements to take the owl to the Milwaukee county Humane society - Wildlife Division. They were the only place close to me that was certified in raptor rehabilitation.

On the way home from work I stopped to fill up with gas then went home to retrieve the owl. I left the truck running in the driveway while I went in to retrieve the bird. I grabbed the box, looked in, and there he was....DEAD!! [:o]

Too bad, he was a neat bird.

BTW, it was a long eared owl. I was told that they are common only in Racine and Kenosha counties in this part of the state. They seem to migrate and end up here in the winter. They hang out in colonies. Oh well, it's too bad for the owl, I tried.

Too bad. Maybe they can do an autopsy to figure out what happened.

Too bad that he died. Look at the bright side, you can make some hot wings! Be sure to use the Hooters sauce.;)

I comend you for trying to save it. Unfurtunatly many would not. I've had to put a few deer struck by cars down in the past. Its not easy. I know I'd much rather see them heal up and doing well in the woods. But these were injuries that would have let the fox and coyotes eat on them a while before they died. What a horrible way to go....I'd imagine you saved that owl from a similar fate if nothing else.

I'd highly doubt it would be legal unless a permit is acquired. Won't the humane society still expect it or did you call them back? I know here in PA you could not keep and mount it without contacting the PGC.
