Changes for 09'

1. I am going to add a good climber.
2. I am going to add a really good backpack.
3. I am going to build a heater body suit.

What are you all changing up?

RE: Changes for 09'

1. I'm going to add a rangefinder to my arsenal.
2. I'm going to take what I learned last year and put to use this year. Basically, I'm going to hunt smarter because of the knowledge I gathered this year.
3. I'm going to continue my deer journal. I just read some excerpts that I wrote this past year that I totally forgot about. I think it is a very good tool to use and it's fun to look back on your hunts.

RE: Changes for 09'

1 More time with trad gear.
2 Upping my head weight to 125gr going back to fixed heads after a year of Rage.(compound)
3 Shooting feathers rather than Blazers (for greater FOC along with upping head weight)(compound)
4 Shooting heavier arrows out of both bows
5 hanging more stands for better opportunities and varying winds
6 building more and better ground blinds during the off season to increase my odds with the longbow.

RE: Changes for 09'

RE: Changes for 09'

1. Travel More.
2. Worry and Second Guess and Doubt LESS for my sets around home
3. Pick back up a farm I lost this past season
4. Im not going to hunt every waking moment sept-oct like last year, by the time I killed my buck I was beginning to somewhat become burnt out. I would have continued until now if need be to get my buck, but I am glad I got him when I did. I probably won't hunt much this September unless I have a bachelor group patterned early on....or I want to whack a doe or two for meat one weekend....I don't doe hunt in the areas I buck hunt though.
5. Hunt EVERY available moment at my November honey hole during the rut, and leave it untouched otherwise.

Gear wise, I am not picking up much for whitetail hunting. I hope to add a millenium hang on and extra receivers to my arsenal, so I can switch it up by only leaving out stick ladders. I also want to pick up a Covert II trail cam or two, they are simply amazing.....

2. Picked up a few new properties to hunt so I can hunt different areas and not stink one place up.
3. Going back to fixed blades

RE: Changes for 09'

I could have almost cut and paste one of Trevor's responses. I'm on my way in for one of my final sits of the year, but I definitely burned myself out a bit this year. I think I'm closing in on 130 sits on stand this year.

Next year, I think I won't go as much early on when the temps are marginal, and I'll switch to trapping in December. I'm already SUPER excited about putting up a bunch of fur next year!

Do you not like the Rage? I'd heard good things, and was considering using them.

I'm hoping to pick up a new pair of binos, probably need some new arrows by then and try to have more fun that this season, which could be hard to top, but I'm up to it! :)

RE: Changes for 09'

Yep I had a bad experience, had good arrow placement at 8 yds on the biggest buck I have ever had in range. After that I dont know what happened, but I do know he isnt hanging up on my wall of fame.

Keep doing what I am doing and book more hunts out of state and afford to do it by staying single. I have EVERYTHING imaginable for bowhunting. Setting good that way.
Edit: Muzzy just reminded me I need a game cart. And I am building a Heater Body suit, maybe get a chrono..I just bought brand new digital Archery scale off of a guy on AT that sells them to your door for $19.00 so I can weigh arrows and broadheads.I already use A/C/C arrows and am going to buy their new prohunter or whatever it is called

I'm also considering selling the 7mm Rem Mag since I don't seem to need it for now and spending all of my time bow hunting with some shotgun hunting, if anyone might be interested.

RE: Changes for 09'

Possibly designing a new hang on stand. I make all my stands already but I'd like to make them a little easier and quieter to put up In a tree. Also possibly changing up my arrow set up. Buying another recurve for myself also.

RE: Changes for 09'

Get out of the captain's chair of my boat more often and exercise more before the season opens. Catching fish and drinking beer all summer really takes its toll by the first time I climb a mountain in September! (Of course I make this resolution every year and nothing changes... I just like beer and killing fish too much!)

I am going to gain permission at a few more places this year as well work on my shooting form more.
