He said that oil does not lose it's properties. It just gets dirty.
Off topic for a moment: You are not changing the oil because it lost its properties you are changing it to remove that dirt. The dirt is what causes the wear on the cylinder walls and other "rubbing" parts.

Back on topic: I wouldn't say I used lots of wax but after reading this thread I will be using less wax and will look for something a little better than what I have. Thanks.

Interesting. Definitely conflicting info on the waxing rate. I was told to wax weekly as well from several people. I don't, however. In the year I've owned my 101st, I've waxed the string probably 3 times. It's the stock Bowtech strings, but they're good strings, and I saw very little fuzziness even after plenty of shooting. As for technique, I just put a light coat on the string, and work it in by rubbing my fingers between the string. Friction softens the wax, gets it penetration, and wicks the excess off all in one motion.

As for the oil changes...I'll stick to the every 3K miles...I get my oil by the 50gal drums anyways.;)

Thanks guys. Sounds like i've been doing it right. I try not to over do it to. I was just wondering if I was doing it to much or to little. Have any of you used dental floss to get the extra was off before? Is this a good way to get off the excess wax? Thanks again for all the input.

If my strings start looking a little "fuzzy" they get wax, otherwise, they're OKAY in my book.

I never overwax. Its like wd40... after so long, it just collects dirt and grime. I wax a few times per year. Usually during hunting season the most.

Several times a year for me too.

Oh, and I do the 10,000 miles between oil changes....changing the filter half way. I use mobil 1 synthetic though, not reg oil. I can tell you that works for sure....I've put over 150,000 miles on2 different cars, and 240,000 on another with NO engine workat all

I like to compare it to changing oil in cars. I once had a Citgo engineer tell me that changing oil every 3000 miles was a complete waste of oil and money. Just propaganda to make the oil companies money. He recommended changing the filter every 5000 miles and add a quart of oil. Then change everything at 10,000 miles. He said that oil does not lose it's properties. It just gets dirty. And this coming from a guy who's job it was to sell my company lubricants.

I think the same psychology could be applied to bow strings.
Well, I think the money your Citgo engineer friend saves onoil changes is going towards buying Crack, because engine oil does indeed lose properties/vescosity by way of what is called shearing. This is the break down of the molicules as the oil goes through very tight area's such as the oil pump, cylinders/oil rings, ect. Wax your strings guys.;)
