The first deer I ever shot, a buck, I killed from 1-2 yards...almost straight down(bad bad decision on my part). I've killed several other deer at 10 yards or less which makes me very happy as compared to long range shots.

The Buck I killed this year was at 10 yards, 2 other deer in the past I have killed at about 12 yards. I also killed a Doe with the shotgun from 12 feet away 2 years ago!

Deer, 3 yards.

I once tried a finishing shot on a woodchuck. I walked up to the angry but mostly immobile critter, drew my bow and shot down at him from about a foot away.

It was summer. I was wearing a lightweight t-shirt. My bow was 44" axle to axle. ....I just about gave myself a field masectomy.
Dang that hurt.

I had the most awesome bruise that I couldn't show anyone. [:-]

Holy smokes!! [:-] That brought a tear to my eye! I've been around archery for quite a while and have witnessed this occurrence a couple of times. Usually it happens to women that are relatively new to archery and hopefully it is a lifetime learning experience! Ya gotta feel bad for them when it happens.

Anyway, I've shot deer at 3 or 4 yards before.

My first archery doe was 8 feet from the base of my tree. I was 14 feet up in the air. Whatever the math on that is [8D]
