This is for Iowa members only, sorry all of you that don't live near Double Lung Archery.
Feel free to share this idea with your local shop and see if they want to sponsor a similar SLAM in your area/state

Double Lung Archery
Iowa Slam and Iowa Grand Slam

Since many of us (myself included) will never have the chance to do a Grand Slam hunt by taking all the game animals in North America I thought I’d come up with an IOWA SLAM and GRAND SLAM that would be available to all of us. Of course, this will be for bow kills only.
So, here is how it works.
Starting with the 2009 hunting season the goal is to take the following game animals with your bow.

Iowa Slam
Big game, must harvest 3 of the 4
Turkey
Whitetail Doe
Whitetail Buck, must score minimum 130” (gross P+Y scoring)
Coyote

Small game/fish, must harvest at least 4 species out of the 8
Red or Grey squirrel , counts as one species
Cottontail Rabbit
Rooster Pheasant
Raccoon (must have fur harvester lic.)
Fox (must have fur harvester lic.)
Jack Rabbit
Groundhog
Carp (must have fishing lic.)

IOWA GRAND SLAM
You must harvest 1 of all species listed!

You must pre register to participate. Register at Double Lung Archery.
To qualify, each game animal taken must have a picture of you, the animal and your bow. You must either hold a sign that says Double Lung Archery Iowa Slam 2009 or hold up 9 fingers in the picture. No picture containing all 4 things, no entry! No exceptions.
$20.00 ENTRY FEE (keep in mind this will get you in the drawing for a FREE new bow! Aprox value $800.00)
Prizes!
All participants that accomplish the IOWA SLAM will receive a Double Lung Archery IOWA SLAM plaque and a $50.00 gift certificate from Double Lung Archery

Participants that accomplish the IOWA GRAND SLAM will receive a Double Lung Archery IOWA GRAND SLAM plaque and a $100.00 gift certificate from Double Lung Archery!

ALL Participants will have 1 entry in a drawing for a FREE 2010 Mathews, Hoyt, Ross, Mission or Pearson hunting bow of their choice!
Bonus entries for FREE bow drawing you can earn
1st 30 people that sign up earn an extra entry
Hunters that accomplish the IOWA SLAM will earn 1 extra entry
Hunters that accomplish the IOWA GRAND SLAM will earn 2 extra entries

All kills must be according to Iowa hunting regulations and be fair chase. Hunter must possess the applicable licenses.

That sounds like fun. I may have to give it a try. I live in Cedar Rapids, but hunt down in Appanoose County. I get up your way every once in a while I will have to stop in. What are your store hours?

It's really not too bad here. In fact, it's a lot like Minnesota. Except that our temperatures, IQ's, and deer scores are all higher.;)

Really? I hunt a 40,000 acre forest. Not a single acre of crop land can you find this in IA? Plus I like to fish. You are right about the rest though, MN DNR cant manage a herd, it is definetly colder here, and we voted Franken in. But my friend IA is nothing like MN!

Dave...JACKRABBIT...come on...I don't even think there art 2 in the entire state.I would rather try to find a mountain lion and there aren't any of them either.;)

never said it would be easy to get the Grand Slam. Northern Iowa still has some Jack Rabbits

No, but our crop land is what grows giant bucks. Also, between just two landowners I can fish a different farm pond every day of the summer. I only wish I had the time. Not uncommon to catch largemouths up to 8 lbs and all the panfish you can eat.We actually have 5 good fishing lakes within 10 minutes of my house also. Not beautiful lake fishing for types of fishlike you have but still pretty fun. I have traveled to your state a few times and it is very nice. But FRANKEN????:(;)

Where were you when I was doing all this.
Already have"ALL" the animals listed except a Coyote.
Of course it took me 52 years of Bowhunting.
