which fixed head

I'm an expandable guy, but I might need to use a fixed head on a particular hunt. What do you guys like for a fixed head, or should I say what has been doin it for you. Thanks

I am sold on Slicktricks. I shot a mule deer buck and a bull elk with the same BH this year! Awesome product!

+1, best flying head I've ever shot. I feel as confident with a ST Mag on the tip of me arrow as I do with a FP!!!

I'm going back to a fixed head next year after a few years with Rocky Mt. Snypers (great head by the way). I just want the simplicity again.

The two I'm considering at this point are the Muzzy MX-3's and the Slick Tricks. I'm leaning toward the Tricks because of the all steel construction.

I'm a Muzzy fan. They've never let me down and they also fly true.

Long time loyal Thunderhead user here. Never let me down.
Some other quality heads are the montecs, magnus stingers, & slick tricks.

MeanV2 01-07-2009 03:27 PM

RE: which fixed head

There is a good selection of quality heads today, not so years back.

IMHO the best fixed blade broadhead on the market is the Slick Trick. I've used them since 03, and Gary has made several improvements, but I'd still shoot the 03 models over anything else available today.

RE: which fixed head

I've never shot anything but fixed. I've probably used a dozen different kinds over the last 38 years. I've had great luck with the Thunderheads and the Shuttle T's, that's what I'm using now. Knowing what you're going to be hunting would help also. The Muzzy has killed more game than just about any fixed head on the market I believe. When you get it narrowed to a couple, shoot them both and see which works best with your setup. A well tuned bow will shoot a shovel head. An off tuned one will give you fits.

the profile picture says it all but if you don't agree, i did kill a doe with a G5 striker this year, i was suprisingly satisfied with the head

RE: which fixed head

Slick tricks are great heads..The main reason I like them is because Ive tried a few brandsandST's arethe only ones that constantly fly like my field tips. Plus they do a lot of damage for their size.

Triton wac ems good head killed alot of deer with them.Buddy shoots wasp boss bullet 4 bld unbeleviable blood trails, not very long though. You get 6 complete heads for35.00 in 75-90-100gr I will be trying them next season.

Depends on what you're shooting at. If it's a hog or some thick skinned game I'd suggest Magnus stinger, Snuffer, or Wendsel Woodsman (Stinger gets the nod for being sharp out of the package). For any other game there's lots of options: Thunderheads andMuzzy being two of the best known, dependable heads. I used thunderheads for years.

That's what I use is Magnus 2 blades, had some pretty good luck using them..I used to use Bear 2 blades but can not get them no more..[:@]

I've used these since 1994 without a failure, why fix something when it's not broke.
Someone did a broadhead test with a web link that was very informative???

I have had very good results with Shuttle T-Lock 100 Gr. heads. Fly absolutly amazing and are strong as anything that i have ever seen. Blades are very durable due to the thickness of the blade. Check them out!! http://tightpoint.com/video.asp

NAP Hellrazor.Have no problems with them staying sharp.

G5 Striker
Sharp, strong, easy blade changing. Ive killed two does with them, blood trails are good and they stay together. I love them, just wish they werent 34 bucks for 3.

RE: which fixed head

Most heads fly good but slick tricks do hit where you aim. I've never had a flier and because of their compact design they're not affected much by wind.

RE: which fixed head

Longtime Muzzy fan here but I've dabbled with a few other fixed heads the last few years. Best flying head I've ever shot is the Rocky Mountain Turbos(now known as Blitz), but the tiny allen screws are a pain in the rear when replacing the blades and I've gone away from the Turbo(Blitz) only for this reason.

Ive got some Muzzy's and Sattelites for soft game only(but i never use them as they dont last)...But if you guys want to try some of the ultra tough Aussie heads Blackstump 2 bladers...Outback Supremes..Outback Shikari's..both 2 blade and 4...and Tuskers are in my opinion the best flying..toughest broadheads available....Good for Scrub Bulls..buff and you can re sharpen and get dozens of Deer shots with no dramas....And with the exchange rate you will prob get them delivered for the same price we pay....Shikari's fly the same as field points to 60m....Tuskers are avail over eBay and the others thru Aussiebowhunters.com..
