If I can't find the deer the old fashioned way I don't need to be hunting.

you said it......

i recently saw a video of some guys using something like that for hog hunting.

Like I said, I would use it for scouting not hunting. with that said, you still have to find deer the old fashioned way: Read maps, look for sign, follow the sign. The only thing this would do is let you see deer at night, maybe to see where the enter fields, etc. from. It can't find deer for you no more than a trail cam can find deer for you.

I haven't fallen into the trail camera craze, I doubt I'd buy this at any cost. Fiber optic pins is about as hi-tech as I think.

Not me. It would show the deer that are currently there, in other words right at that time, doesn't mean they will be there when you are hunting. I prefer finding their trails because that is what I am going to hunt anyway.

A gentleman uses one here in GA for hogs, sales guided guaranteed hunts on farmers land that is ravaged by them. For that purpose heck yeah...you can identfy the hogs or yotes. No risk shooting deer as I am sure happens sometimes. For hunting or scouting deer, nah, just not for me.
