DIY Elk hunts?
 

Myself and a few of my friends were kicking around the thought of going on a Rut elk hunt were looking for a good public land DIY hunt that we can afford. Since I was looking to get out of this town via all the problems going on here, This may be a good opportunity for next september. We'll be taking a few trucks with us and taking a pop up camper and we were sorta wondering if yall had any suggestions for us, Were new to this game and have no idea just that we want to try for some bulls, We dont gotta shoot no 360" bulls but we'd just like to kill some elk. Looking for OTC tags or a lottery that we will all be likley to get drawn for... Either works.

Any Suggestions would be lovley.

From what I have read on here and other forums Colorado has otc tags and some good public hunting grounds, but doing your own research is the best way to get your answer.

I've been hunting Colorado for 20 years now. All DIY hunts and I run 50% success on public land. You have to be in shape and ready to work for an elk. The cost for the hunt is cheap it runs me about $1100.00 per hunt round trip.

For the area to hunt you have to do your research look for areas of public lan that border private tracts.
