I's say if it's your money then it's your decision. I would never judge a man by the Bucks he choses to shoot or have mounted.

That's his choice! Even if it's not the same as mine.

I euro mounted my first buck which was a spike. Now, I look back and say "why did I do that".

If you do it yourself, I would say go ahead and euro mount, if your paying 100 dollars, I might reconsider.

That is a total personal preference. I wish you well on your decision and congratulations on your buck.

if you've got the cash, do it. ALL mounts tell a story, and your first deer? priceless.

Well, the fact that you are on here asking the question means that in your heart you really want to mount it and are hoping for some positive reinforcement from other members here, overriding the negativeparental advice that you have received from your father. This is a diagnosis of a classic case of CMRD, or Cognative Mountal Reinforcement Disorder. It typically strikes young and new hunters who are so proud of their first deer that theyare stricken by the need to mount the deer and be able retain the memory and the happiness of their first successful hunt. Unfortunately, the downside of the disorder is that there will usually be someone very close to the patient that will suffer from TRABE, or That Rack Ain't Big Enough. I have successfully treated several of my patients that suffer from CMRD, and am happy to report that they have moved on to live very happy, productive, successfuland fulfilling hunting lives. Since it is the Holidays and I am in a very giving mood, I will agree to treat your disorder and waive all fees. My treatment is very simple. The steps to successful treatment are
#1. Look at the rack carefully, study it and relive the hunt in your mind!!
#2. Disregard any negative advice you receive.
#3. Load the deer head and cape into your vehicle and deliver to the taxidermist of your choice.
#4. Pick out the mount you desire, put down the required deposit and leave with a huge smile on your face.
#5. When the taxidermist calls informing you your mount is done, drive to his shop, pay the balance and leave with your TROPHY!!!! It doesn't matter what ANYONE else says or sees in your deer, it is YOUR deer and it is YOUR TROPHY!!! That is all that matters. Now leave with an even bigger smile on your face.
#6. Hang up your trophy in the place you desire ( chances are this deer will make a few different moves with you. The wonderful thing is, it will look incredible wherever it hangs and the great memory of the hunt will never dimish!) and by now it will be physically impossible to produce a smile any bigger without tearing facial flesh!!

Please follow all these steps and you will be cured from CMRD.

I wish you the biggest congratulations on your first buck. It has been over 25 years since I killed my first one. A basket racked 7 point. It hangs in my trophy room with many other mounts. As a matter of fact, it sits directly across the room from my biggest buck to date, which is actually a full body mount. And trust me, I get just as excited at looking at the small 7 point that was my fist bow kill as I do looking at the full mount of my 159" buck. No one can ever take that joy of that memory from me, and I am so glad that I mounted it.

So, my prognosis is that you do indeed suffer CMRD, and the only treatment is.. MOUNT THAT BUCK!!!!!

Thank You for choosing my practice for your hunting mental health needs.

Proff - Well said and it is right on.

The only decision you have is how you want the mount to look! Don't think twice unless you can not afford it. If that is the case, then be proud of the buck regardless of how you keep it. The story and he thrill of the hunt will not change.

Congrats and may you have many more!

Bluetick, congatulations. Great job. If you feel you should mount it, do it. I bet you will feel great 20 years down the road and can see your first deer.

I didn't think I had a deer worth mounting till reading how some of you feel about it...and I do too as matter of fact! Most my hunts have been alone or proir to digital cameras(easy to save photo's).I have a number of little cull fork horns and 6's on garage walls that each have their own memories.I also have a decent axis and real respectable fallow...they are on a shelf in shop due to the thoughts contected with them.If cost is not an issue then mounting is your choiceto preseve the legacy.

Like several others here will tell you, it's your choice what you want to mount. If you're proud of the deer, then get it mounted, if you're not sure you want to spend a lot of money, you can always do a European/Indian mount on it.

Congrats on your first. It's a job well done.

One thing you can think about is doing a euro mount now, have your caped tanned, and then mount the two together down the road. I do this all the time. Once tanned, the skins last indefinately. There is no need to rush into having your deer mounted today! I have many in this condition presently. When I grow up and can afford a trophy room, I'll start mounting mine.

Best wishes

Will

I got my first buck with a muzzle loader, a 6 pointer, I got him mounted and I am damn proud of it....!!!!
I love remembering that special day:D
My buddy also got his first buck the following year (6 pt.) and didn't mount it, as his boss mentioned the same things your Dad did.

Now every time he comes over he complains that he didn't get his buck mounted, he say's "I should have got my buck mounted",
"I should have got my buck mounted" and just shakes his head!
Too late now, for him, but not for YOU!
If you have the money then do it, you won't regret it

Let's see a pic and story to go with it, I'm excited for you!

well thanks alot guys and gals im gunna get it mounted which way do you think would look better with the bigger side of the rack out or the smaller heres a pic http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/bluetickhunter/Picture056.jpg

he is a 4pnt on the right with good mass and a 2 on the left with alil less mass

The Story: Well went to our spot before sunrise got set up sat till 830 didnt see anything. My buddy comes running down theridge said he seen a group coming along the ridge and to wait there, he was going up farther. Well after 45minuets i figured they were not comming threw i started to slow hunt to him. It was snowing lightly and we already had 7inches from the night before i get to a small brook i know they run and i hear him shoot, so i get ready he comes loping of the hill at 40yards and i wack him.As im reloading a bigger buck comes but i dont care i knew i hit mine. My Buddy comes down and we track him no blood what so ever only alil where i hit him and hair. He went 100yards uphill my buddie told me it didnt look good then we found him at the top of the hill dead in mid run i hit him high but still took out the lungs. I got all excited and called my dad and what not then gutted him out and checked him in was the best day ive had hunting in a long time.

also want to add i hate buckshot this deer got his with buckshot last year and we think that is why his antlers are deformed on top of that he also got buckshot in the neck/ opposite shoulder this year looks like guys dont know the limit distance to buckshot im surrprised he aint dead both shoulders and soem pellets in the neck he weighted 175lbs dressed and i only got backstraps tenderloins and the rear quarter off of him about 40lbs of meat the rest was junk its a shame and it isnt the first deer ive seen this happen to

it depends, if there was something you wanted to remember the hunt by all means. But, personally I wouldn't.
