Shed buck pictures...... and a surprise.....
 

Looks to be a healthy buck who has shed his antlersat first glance......




Maybe even at second glance.....



How about now?????




For my area his muscles structure would be very large in his shoulder area to be1.5 buck, nor do his facial features look to be a yearlingsso I am leaning at 2.5... I never saw this buck all summer on cameraor all fall from stand.....

I just put a camera back out a week ago to check on the shedding process..... This is the only shed buck on camera so far.


I wonder if that is a birth defect or an injury sustained later in life. Any thoughts, ideas or experiences to shed some light on this?

That is crazy. I didnt even realize after I saw the 3rd pic[:-] I started wondering what the post was even about and then I finally relized.

I think his front shoulder muscles are over developed to make up for the missing hind leg. Now they have to do much more work.

You know I really thought about that while looking at the photos earlier.... It is 100% flat where I live.... The only hills we have are over passes on the highways.... I just cannot see that kind of muscle structure on a yearling buck even if it only has 3 legs. I do agree that being one leg short would cause larger muscles in the other legs though.

I am not saying this is not the case, only that I think this guy is in his second year. I very well could be wrong however.

I'm gonna say injury too. I just don't think a fawn with that type of birth defect could have made it in the wild. It would have been coyote food.

It could do alot better if it was injured later in life and was in fairly good shape at the time.

The muscles in the front end do seem to be over developed or maybe it's just the angle of the last pic. These animals never cease to amaze me as to their tuffness.

My opinion is along the lines with Gregh. Over developed front to make up for the leg, which I would guess was from birth.
