ORIGINAL: DropTine249 You'd probably be better off just standing next to it. Cedars tend to be pretty small, eh ? |

RE: putting a stand in a cedar?
ORIGINAL: DropTine249 I dont know about hanging IN a cedar...but its been my experience that bucks like to bed in cedar thickets. I hunted a farm a few years ago that had some random cedar patches(most about or under 5 acres). Almost every cedar patch served as a bedding area. I couldnt and wouldnt get anywhere near those areas in the afternoon, and if I were smart, I would have hunted real tight to them(still allowing myself to be able to exit the stand without spooking deer) in the mornings. It really depends on the layout of your hunting property, but bucks like to bed in adn rub cedars(I've read that they like the aroma that is excreted from the tree while they rub it). |

get up higher in the tree. A cedar wont do it.

Ya'll must have some small cedars. Ours grow to be pretty big. If its big enough for a stand, then put one in it.

RE: putting a stand in a cedar?
IMO the best tree for a stand! bigger ones with less branches I just prune enough branches to install stand and steps. In bushier one you can use a ladder stand. they hide perfectly.

RE: putting a stand in a cedar?
Currently I have a ground blind set in some cedars and two weeks ago shot a pretty decent buck there.
You'll need to break up the corners and roof edges of the blind, darken the inside with extra flat black cloth---"you MUST hunt there with the wind in your favor". Done properly, aground blind will work perfect. |
