OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
If they outlawed compounds in your state would you still bowhunt?
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Without a doubt. You don' t need a Compound Bow to shoot a Broadhead Tipped Arrow.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
No dought..... DEFINITALY.......... FORESURE......... ABSOLUTELY........... ALWAYS....... NO PROBLEM................. Any other questions??????:D
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
No question about it!! In fact I just bought a recurve and am going to try it during deer season. Will likely use the compound for antelope but the deer are getting the stick and string. I would hunt if all I could do was throw rocks.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
NO doubt. I started with and took several deer with a recurve starting over 30 years ago.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Yes-I hunt with recurves and longbows anyway.:D
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Absolutly, but I would fight tooth and nail to keep compounds legal.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
I' d probably quit. :D
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Wait a minute.... I thought you did quit.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Each bowhunter would have 100 square miles of territory to hunt, and the deer population would increase to the point that landowners would pay you to hunt their land.:)
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
More deer for me more deer for me :D Yepper I would still hunt and never even miss a beat but i would hate to see that happen even though I don' t use a compound. There will always be room for everyone in the sport of bow hunting (even xbows)

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
YEP! I started with a recurve , I reckon I' ll finish with a recurve!
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Yes.
All I would have to do is dust off the ole recurve, practice, and hunt. |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
yea still got the old bear recurve I used in the beginning but sure would hate to hang up my mathews that 160 class at 40yrds with a recurve still haunts me
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
In all honesty, I do not know. I love the compound bow and, not to offend anyone, find the traditional bow a little boring from a technical standpoint. Since such a big part of my life is devoted to archery, and compound bows in particular, I do not know if I would enjoy bowhunting as much with a traditional bow. I would expect the same " thrill" to be there when attempting to harvest an animal but bowhunting, to me, is much more to me than just the hunt itself.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Really, I don' t see what the big deal is about compounds. Compared to an average, run-of-the-mill recurve or longbow, I' ve found them to be visually unpleasant, aesthetically unappealing, monetarily consumptive, operationally boring, mechanically fragile, functionally unreliable, tactically inefficient and have a well deserved reputation for giving shooters hypertension, apoplexy... and stinky feet. But they do shoot fast arrows. [&:][>:]:D
Seriously though, in answer to the question, I would be forced to quit bowhunting because of injuries and arthritis. I can not shoot a hunting weight stickbow any more. |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
As a fellow archery techie, I agree with Frank' s post. On the other hand, I love bowhunting so much that I would still do it without a compound. I' d just have to keep some illegal compounds hidden to tinker with.;)
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Heck yeah, my MightyMite would see the same action in the woods. :D:D:D:D
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Arther P, you need to break out as subtlety doesn' t work here. You have to learn to say what you really think. hahaha
I started with a recurve that was the latest in technology back in 1960. I myself would probably not hunt rather than go back to the recurve for reasons that will remain mine. It is an interesting question but I don' t ever foresee this happening. |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Of coarse, i was planning on opening up to a recurve this year
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
I' d definatley hunt...but like bigbull I would fight tooth and nail to keep compounds legal.

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Sure would, might just go back to the recurve anyway. Might even have some extra $ around to hunt more.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Ah, this post has stirred some further thoughts on a related issue that might prove just as interesting. Enter a new thread....:)
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
PA, summed up my thoughts well. I enjoy tuning, tuning mysteries, and everything technical about compounds. I would set in stand with a camera, before I would go back to sticks and curves.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
What' s a " compound" ? :D

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
JRW, Ive never even thought of just throwing the bow at them like that. How high were you in your stand, and do you just drop it or try and throw it like a boomerang. Hey, how come that does got a muzzle on. Maybe its just a bad picture.:D

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
:D:D:D:D:D

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
I' d make the switch to Trad. Gear and b*@ch all the way!

RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Fletch,
:D:D:D...you are killin' me buddy. :D JRW, Do they make a 34 inch tip to tip longbow or recurve? If they do then I want one. :) bwrong, Where have you been hidin' ? I thought I saw a post or two of yours on one or two forums recently but cannot be sure. You have been missing out lately. Not much Mathews threads lately but I have been on downside of many a " discussion" as of late. ;) Seems I am getting somewhat " outdated" myself. :) |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
i guess i' d have to get a recurve:D
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Fletchead,
She' s not dead...she' s sleeping. I' m tellin' ya, it takes some danged SKILL to stalk up on one, lay a bow and arrow on her, snap a picture, and get out without waking her up. Even harder if you use a flash. ;) Actually, the picture scanned a little dark. That' s brush blocking her nose (which is why it extends above her head). Right where and how she fell. Does kind of look like a muzzle though. [:-] Here' s a little buck I slipped up on last year. He was busy day-dreaming, so I put my stuff down and snapped a picture or two. Forgot about the bottle of doe scent in my pack though. When the wind swirled it was an ugly run out of there. ![]() ----------------------------------------------------------- PABowhntr, Sure they make 34" longbows and recurves. They' re called " kiddie bows" . They even make some with wheels on the ends. Most folks eventually graduate to adult bows though, which average around 58 or 60 inches. :D |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
I would hunt with my compound until they took it away from me - physically
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
JRW, these pictures really scare me. Why is that buck licking your string. We got laws against that in Kansas.
|
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
Fletchead,
That' s why he chased me!!! the string silencer must have tickled his nose. :D |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
JRW,
I am really curious now. How in the heck did you get that dear to sit there so nicely. You really need to teach me that trick. :) ....Can I drill holes in some of those " kiddie" bows so that I can strap all types of gadgetry on them. :D I need to feel important ya know. :D |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
PABowhntr,
No need to drill holes. Duct tape works great. Electric tape will do in a pinch (holds my Retriever on for bowfishing). If you must drill holes, you can buy inserts for them too...which is how I use a Kwikee Kwiver. One guy I know shoots an old recurve with a fiber optic sight. The guy' s GOOD. About the deer...that a secret. Email me. ;) |
RE: OUTLAWED COMPOUNDS
If they outlawed compound bows they would be after anything that you could hunt with. Guns, knives, stick bows, spears, crossbows, rocks, snares, slingshots, or running them down, anything that would kill an animal or other is the goal of some misguided souls.[X(]
