Laundry. Again.
You guys post up your laundry routine and how you store your hunting duds after washing/drying. How many hunts out of one washing? Wash everything every time?
Thanks, Leroy the Tomkat |
RE: Laundry. Again.
DDW wash.....dry in the dryer with an earth scent sheet.....store in large sealed plastic bags.
I don't wash unless I sweat in them. Early season.....that's likely every hunt (most garments). This time of year? Every 10 hunts (or so).....or if I sweat in them. They're always stored in sealed, plastic bags, though. |
RE: Laundry. Again.
What kind of sealable bags are you using Jeff?
Do the drier sheets make the clothes smell as strong as those scent wafers? LT |

RE: Laundry. Again.
I wash my under layers frequently, probably every 3 times I wear them. If I can, i'll line dry them outside for a day or so. Then, its into my plastic tubs with earth wafers and a box of baking soda. My outer layers I'll wash twice during season. Once before season and usually about the 3rd week in October.
I was using the Scent Killer laundry detergent but am done using it. It left a funky smell in my clothes if I sweat in them at all. Hard to explain. The best stuff I've ever used is the Sport Wash stuff. I don't know what it is about it, but it seems to clean the best and leave your clothes smelling clean and scentless when your done. Good stuff. |
RE: Laundry. Again.
LT...Lisa picked me up some bags ( I think they're 10 gallon) at the grocery store. They seal like a sandwich bag.
No....the clothes don't come out smelling like a strong earth scent wafer. Kinda mild, actually. |

Keep it coming guys. I would like to hear from some old timers too. LT |
RE: Laundry. Again.
LT....I froze a bunch of shrimp in water in one. It didn't leak when it was half-filled with water/shrimp. That's all I needed.

RE: Laundry. Again.
Who uses Baking Soda and plain water and line drying? If so, where/how do you store afterward?

Thanks Jeff. See if you can find out what brand they are for me.

RE: Laundry. Again.
I wash them when they get blood on them immediately. otherwise I rarely wash outer wear...underclothing reg washes in baking soda only..all my clothes in baking soda only. I hang to dry..my clothes of any kind..never see a dryer. No scents, odor elminating sprays, none of that junk. No carbon clothing crap either. I put mine in plastic storage tubs to keep them organized more so than odor free.

RE: Laundry. Again.
Wash with any ole non scented detergent, DDW is what I have used lately. Dry with an earth scent dryer sheet, and then into the large ziploc bags, just like GMMAT.
They are literally Ziploc Bags, size xxl or something, rather big and come in a 3 pack for like $5. Just seal them all the way across leaving the last 2-3 inches, then press on the bag pushing air out, once it is somewhat compressed, seal off the last 2-3 inches. Now the clothes are stored air tight with no scent getting in. I can usually get a season out of the set of three bags, but if they wear down, which they do, another pack can be had at walmart for another $5. I wash atleast after every day of hunting, and if I head home between hunts Ill try and wash then. Depends if I sweat. Sometimes when I get back from the AM hunt to the truck, Ill remove all layers except the base layers and place back in bag and seal up for afternoon hunt. I just wear a different set of or wash my baselayers before heading back out. Sometimes I get lazy and go a whole weekend without washing, sometimes it is before every sit. Usually every night, after using for both an AM and PM sit. |
RE: Laundry. Again.
Just to add I spray the inside of my truck down and hang a earth scent wafer in it all season long.

RE: Laundry. Again.
Outer layers usually hang outside on the porch in between hunts. After several hunts it gets washed. I have several sets of long underwear. I only wear those once each, thenthey gets thrown in a pile to be washed.
Washing consists of straight baking soda. I usually try to do a line dry, but if that isn't practical I'll go with the earth dryer sheets. When in transit and from season to season, all the clothes are put in a couple great big tupperware type containers. Seems to work okay. |
RE: Laundry. Again.
I run a cycle with bakeing soda, and hot water in the washer, and a run a cycle in the dryer with about a half a cup of bakeing soda. Once they're finished, I spray the washer, and dryer down with homemade scent killer. I then wash the clothes on hot temperature, and use bakeing soda plus about a cup of homemade scent killer spray. I then dry them with a fresh earth scent dryer sheet. I spray them down with scent killer before putting them in the dryer. As soon as there done in the dryer. I take them outside, and hang them on the clothes line, and spray them down with scent killer again lightly. After the dampness is gone I put them in zip-loc storage bags with a few fresh earth scent wafers. After there in the zip-loc bags they go into a big rubbermaid tub. I don't take them out until I'm in the woods, except for the under garments. The boots are 18" rubber they just get spray down often.

RE: Laundry. Again.
I've been washing in baking soda then the dryer and then in a closet with nothing but my hunting gear in it. I'm planning on trying those bags that you hook up to a vacuum and suck all the air out of. I think that will be the best bet for economy of storage space and scent control. I'll let ya'll know how they work. I'm supposed to have some delivered by Santa.

RE: Laundry. Again.
I was all undergarments after every hunt, sweat or not. As for outer layers, probably every 3 hunts those get washed too. The house we bought has a greenhouse on back of the garage, but now it is my camo storage room. All my camo hangs out there year round, all windows open, so it smells fresh as a daisy all year. To and from hunting spots, I use a Scent-Lok bag. as for my boots, I keep them in a box with leaves on the bottom.
