Buy my next stand...

Or at least help me pick it out. I currently hunt with 4-5 hang-ons throughout the year. I have 4 climbing sticks with these of different brands (whatever is on sale), and a ladder that has been painted to not shine or stick out.

Anyways I have already purchased a Gorilla King Kong, and a Big Game Boss stand and then 2 Remington Climbing sticks in the last few weeks. The stands both seems like they are great. I am going to get one more setup for next year still.

Right now Bass Pro has $20 off a purchase of $100 or more. I have been looking at getting the Remington Stand/Climbing Stick Combo for $99.89.

Also looked at the Gorilla Kong and the Gorrila Silverback Scout. I have a Silverback already and LOVE it, and I'm sure that the Kong is of the same great quality as my other 3 Gorillas.

My budget for this setup is going to be around $100. The only plus I like about the Remington is that I get the stick with it. However, I really like Gorilla stands, and I can usually find a climbing stick on sale somewhere for around 30 bucks.

Thanks for the help guys and help me spend some of my hard earned money...

Get a climber, then you only have to have ONE stand. Just my suggestion.

Well I did buya climber this year instead of getting a few more hang ons. I had a pretty bad night with it on my way down that scared the crap out of me and I have now taken it back, and don't plan on getting a new one any time soon.

While it was very convenient, I did not feel like it was worth it.

Summit Climber for sure
Trust me people I hunted with my Summit a few times this year and will not feel comfortable climbing back up into one. Not going to bash it on the board as there was already a thread for it.

Not a safer climber out there that I know of (summit).

That being said....I boughta LW alpha sit and climb this year.....and I've been up with it about 75+ times, so far. It's my go-to....and I'll never look back.

I agree 100%. I don't feel comfortable with them either..mine is collecting dust. The ONLY time I use it, is when I have camera man duties for someone else who hunts from one.

I know it is slightly over, but WVHunter pointed me in the right direction, I am going to try a millenium m100 hangon. Supposedly the most comfortable bar none, weighs about 15 lbs (not light, but not heavy), and costs about 180-190 on sportsmansguide. What I plan to do is buy extra sets of sticks (20 ft sticks on SG for $35), and set these out with a receiver for the millenium stand (chain on, just slide peg of stand into and your ready to hunt).....So, I wont have a stand in the woods to be stolen, after the initial stand purchase, each additional stand sight setup only costs like 20 bucks for the receiver instead of 40+ for another hang on. Once the receiver is set, hanging the stand takes seconds, with no effort at all. Just climb up with it on your back, once there take it off back, slide into receiver, climb in and hunt. I will have probably 300 or so in it, but this will give me 5-7 setups...so it is on par with the cheapest stands you can find..except this one is comfortable.

Ask WV about em or google them if interested...I can't wait to try it.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Milleniums, but my one question is can the seat fold up so you are able to get up next to the tree?

The guy that told me to look into them said they are the most comfortable he has ever ran across and he has no problem hunting all day out of them.

hmmm thats one that may need to be taken into consideration if I can save up to fully utilize the advantages of just being able to carry the stand in and out with me each day.

It all depends on what tree within the area you want to set in. For example I love being able to climb as high as I want or needed with my climber, but you need a good tree with no big limbs in the way while climbing. But I love being able to use my hangons(especially the Lone Wolf) for adaptability. I can hang it almost anywhere and take full advantage of the cover of forked trees or fencerows afford, especially this time of year.

Sounds like u like the cheapies so I heard that Menards has a bunch on closeout. When you want quality..step up to a LW hangon and you will junk the rest..jmo

I LOVE Lone Wolf!!! I have hunted from one once and thought it was great and couldn't say enough good things about them. However like you said, the cheapies work better for me right now. I'm a full time college student, so I get by with what I can with my job.

Nothin wrong with that buddy. I can only afford one and I only use my LW Alpha hangon. I hang it and tear it down each time I hunt using the LW sticks. My stuff can't get stolen, weathered, or chewed on by squirrels. A young buck like you should be able to have enough stealth and energy to hunt like this if an old dude like me can.

I have thought about this approach, and it is somewhat similar to what TEmbry suggested with the Milleniums. And whatever you did this year must of worked lol because you put down some studs.

I used to pack a hang on into public land about a mile deep, and would see a lot of deer by putting it up and taking it down. Over the last 4 years or so though, I have started hunting on our family farm and have opted to leaving them out since theft has never been a problem and it reduces the time and noise of putting a set up.

RE: Buy my next stand...

I will certainly put my vote in for the Millenium. By far the most comfortable stand out there, and yes the seat folds up against the tree. If you hunt in an area where you can set up your stand sites ahead of time, and leave them set up....imo, this stand is hard to beat. You can buy the extra recievers and set up multiple sites, and you only need 1 actual stand. All you do is decide which set you are gonna hunt, carry your stand out with you and slip it in. I have 8 stand sites set up and will have more next season. Brackets cost about $21, so not too bad.

That said, if you hunt like HCH, the LW is probably a better fit, and certainly a great stand too. Its a tad more adaptable due to the platform leveler, so you can set up on just about any tree. You need a straight section of tree for the Millenium to set up correctly so the platform is level (like most hangons)...which usually isn't hard to find.

I think even HCH will vouch for the Millenium, as I know he has one too...just doesn't fit his style as much as it does mine (and maybe yours).

When setting the stand into the bracket is there much noise involved?

Also, do you use an extra ratchet strap or 2 for added security, or how exactly does it hold into the bracket? I have alwayspreferred to replace the straps with most of my stands or climbing sticksand used ratchets instead to really get them down tight.

WV Hunter 12-10-2008 08:17 PM

RE: Buy my next stand...

Absolutely NO noise at all...takes about 5 seconds to set it up. And no, you don't need anything else....the bracket is a female and the stand is a male....you can figure out the rest I'm sure ;)

The bracket is on a chain, and supports the stand completely, and its rock solid.

I have a millenium that I bought two years ago. It's stable, extremely comfortable and easy to hang.Mine has a slotted platform and my only complaint is that rubber boots squeak on it like crazy when it's wet.I see the new ones have a mesh platform and that may fix the problem.

wallhangr 08-15-2014 07:10 AM

If you decide to spend a little more, I'd go with the Millenium. Otherwise, stick with the Gorilla. Mine is still one of my favorites out of 5 other lock-ons and 2 climbers (Summit included).

fastetti 08-15-2014 03:06 PM

This thread was from 6 years ago. Hopefully the OP is up to 10 or 15 stands by now!

AR Bowhunter 08-18-2014 10:32 PM

XOP treestands.

ojibwa 08-22-2014 04:43 AM

look into Tag d out tree stands, they are a little higher the most loc-ons but none easier to hang...

my mistake Mike is still doing some revisions on the stand and they are not out yet..
