You need to set the time and date on your camera LOL. He looks like he's got a really long body. When was that picture taken?

RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
I shot a hoss of a 1.5 year old this year and if he'd have made it to next year, id expect him to look similar to that guy. I think your accurate.

Looking at that THICK COAT, looks like y'all in for a LONG COLD winter like we are over here!!!! I agree with you, I think his facial feature look a little immature yet, but his body may not look quite as big if you could see ALL of his legs, and his "feathers" weren't so ruffled, but even yet, he still looks to have a fairly large body. Next year, he may be a HOSS!!!

Nice sized deer if he is a 2.5 year old... I would have let him have it! :)
next year he will be a whopper though.. |
RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
ORIGINAL: DropTine249 You really think he is 3.5yo ? I'm not discounting that as an explanation, just dont think so, personally. |

I'm going by the face. He looks young. Slender head and not alot in the front shoulder department. 2.5 year old. should hit between 120 and 130 next year.

RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
With that second pic up there and knowing it was taken 2 weeks ago that is definitely a 2.5 year old in my eyes. Being that far into the rut there is definite distiction between his shoulders and neck. Next year his neck will look much bigger and if he makes it to the year after that it will just flow into the shoulders.
He definitely has some potential. |

ORIGINAL: DropTine249 I read that a buck at 2.5yo is only at 33% of his antler potential. At 3.5yo, he is at 64% of that potential and at 4.5yo he is at 88%.... ![]() I have killer genetics in my area.:D[8D] Heck, with those stats, My 92" 2.5 would have been a fraction under 243" in 2 years. |

RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
Droptines numbers are right on; however, don't get score confused with the animals potential. The score of a deer has several factors that don't mean much. Spread for example is themeasurementthat is most flawed as the spread means nothing in regards to thesize of an animals rack-- thelength of the beams is a better barometer.
If you use DT's #'s and think of mass and horn weight which do not always equate or get credit with the B&C/P&Y scoring systemis a better way to think of it.Using displacement which measures sqaure inches of horn massis a true scoring antlersystem butitwon't ever catch on. |

J/k yeah most us jersey guys would kill to take a AVERAGE canadian buck in our state (don't get me wrong we get some bruiser) :D Yea, I have 2 road kill 1.5yos hanging from my fence. Poor little guys. They were HUGE 1.5yo bucks. Too bad for them. One was killed in my front yard. They woudl have likely been this size, next season. Bry, you know the area, and the type of bucks running around(and their normal charectoristics). Whatcha think...2.5 or 3.5yo ? |
RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
ORIGINAL: Predator19 Actually i think that means the deer would have 66% more growth. So 66% of 92 is 60and add that to 92 and you get 152". Whether I am dumb or not, the statement below suggests that the size at 2.5, is 1/3 of its potential size. What am I overlooking? I read that a buck at 2.5yo is only at 33% of his antler potential. |
RE: Big bodied 2.5yo ?!?!(photo)
ORIGINAL: DropTine249 Yea Bry- I believe him to be 2.5yo. If he makes it to 4.5yo, he should be one heck of a buck. I read that a buck at 2.5yo is only at 33% of his antler potential. At 3.5yo, he is at 64% of that potential and at 4.5yo he is at 88%.... If he's around next season, we'll see what he looks like. A lot of the areas that I now hunt were over hunted and many guys blasted every decent 2yo they saw, needless to say, we're in a "rebuilding" phase, right now with these herds. Here's my buck ![]() |
