That was interesting... Deer and Gut piles....
Dr. Kroll(sp?) on NA White-tail was talking about gut piles, and how animals react to them. Via Trailcam
The first investigators of a gut pile were Deer! Sniffing, licking, checking them out. Sometimes within an hour after they were dumped.... Then the Buzzards, followed by the bears. So who hunts over Gut piles... do we consider this baiting?[8D] |
RE: That was interesting... Deer and Gut piles....
I saw that but as curious as deer are, I'd also say the opposite could be true as well and I don't gut where I hunt. I won't take that chance.

i have taken deer within ft of a gutpile, only 24 hours of leaving a gutpile in the woods. My friends agree too that a gutpile in the midwest timber means nothing to a deer.

I gut where they fall. Why drag out all that extra weight?
yotes had my gutpile gone by daybreak the next morning anyway. Ever want to study what your buck eats? Visit a demolished gutpile, and see what remains. My bucks gut pile sight looked like someone dumped out a cornpile;). My neighbors standing corn must be a goldmine right about now. |
RE: That was interesting... Deer and Gut piles....
Maybe I was the only one who thought the experiment was weak at best?........they used "Replicated" gutpiles rather than actual gutpiles from whitetail deer.
What the heck exactly is a "replicated" gut pile? :D |
RE: That was interesting... Deer and Gut piles....
I didnt catch that Matt, I was floating from the computer to the TV and such....
