What's up with all of these,"Season's Over" threads???

I don't get it. Threads about now that season is over what did you learn, well, now that my season is over, etc etc etc. What,No doe tags? No coyotes to hunt? No squirrels, rabbits? Is whitetail season it for you guys? Gun season opens up and you all quit cause the orange army ruins it once archery reopens? I feel sad for you guys that hang up the bows just when season is beginning. Oh well, I guess if you want to sit around in your recliners and get fat..more power to ya;)As for me, I am bowhunting till the fat lady sings and season is closed. Heck, sparrows, starlings, and coyotes are open year around.

I hear ya Hc. I will be deer hunting till Jan 31. I have 5 tags left to fill and after that it's Hog huntin' time. I have a lot of wild hogs in our main hunting area and I intend to do my after season scouting and hog hunt in February. Maybe even prepare a few stand sites/shooting lanes for next fall. It ain't near about over for me.

I have a deer carcass out and enjoying watching the yotes hit it. I am going to sneak a ground blind in, bush it in, and kill a yote on that carcass. Lots of bowhunting yet. You all have deer carcasses don't ya?

Same to you Don. I have seen a couple of those hogs this year and I know of one Boar that will easily go 250 on the hoof. I would be as tickled to get him as any buck. I also have seen a totally blonde coyote from one stand. I would love to take him as well. Lot's of critters can be trophies/food.

I to think it's funny the amount of people that call it quits so early. I still have a month and a half of season left here. There's no chance that I'm calling it quits, it's still early.

I have never got a yote with my bow and that would be a huge trophy to me. Never had a shot at one andrarely see any. I hear them howl at night while leaving my stand at times. They are around but I can count the few times while on stand that I have seen a yote and never within bowrange. I have taken two foxes. I want a crack at a bobcat some day too.

I hear ya..... for some, I guess it sucks to be a "bow only" hunter! My seasons ends in about 6 months!!!!!!!!!![8D]

I will still be hunting but there is one thing I dislike about late season hunting. That is the doe's are carrying their embryos already. Killed one last year that was carrying a buck and a doe. Have the pic's but don't like posting them as others will complain about it. Never even saw a coyote. Non the less I will be out there in the cold of Jan.

Some people do more than just hunt. In my area it is time to start ice fishing and some snowmobile riding.

I have been bowhunting since Aug 29th...i am pretty well burned out. I might go out a time or two around christmas time before the season ends.

Good point also Cooter, Ice fishing Is a blast and I'll be doing a good share of that come January through April.

I normally would agree with you on this. I have always thought some of the best hunting here in Illinois was late season. I love sitting on food plots on a cold December day. However, my season is OVER! Not only am I bucked out (only allowed two in Illinois), but the freezer is PACKED with the 7 does and 2 bucks, but my third child is due any day. In fact, my wife just called and said she thought she was having some mild contractions. Oh well, 3D starts in Feb!!!!

Season over, naw.

I have a MN buck tag left, and have another month to fill it. I also have a lot of doe tags.

I shot three yotes on sunday.

Almost time to get my trap line going.

Hitting the ice, this coming weekend.

Your right Schultzy...most of the guys on this Forum probably don't know what it feels like to hunt in truly cold weather. It was 5 degrees and breezy out when I killed my last bow buck around Thanksgiving time...CHILLY!

That's quite a season and congrats on the new expected child. You are free to call bowhunting quits for the season in my eyes.:)

It's never over. I'll be out there with my bow until they tell me I can't have a weapon in the woods anymore. Then I'll switch right over to late season scouting for next year, shed hunting, etc.... A year long process for me. Gets pretty discouraging this time of year when the orange army has been at it for a few weeks. Seems like they have all but packed it in now though and the woods are calming down a little. Had a shooter buck in the middle of a hay field yesterday during daylight hours. Hopefully they'll start hitting food sources again and showing themselves. Good luck to all the late season hunters.

While the bow may be shelved for the rest of the year, my hunting sure won't be. I'll still be out hunting deer with shotgun, pistol and maybe even rifle. I will also try and get out for some predator hunting.

RE: What's up with all of these,"Season's Over" threads???

My season never ends, it just transitions into a new year. Just because im not bowhunting does not mean im sitting on the couch gettin fat. Ive filled enough of my tags to justify taking it easy for a little while. Ill hit the late bowseason hard, but its still not "THE bow season." After all the time ive put on stand this year during the early bow, i take the gun season torest andscout for the late season, then pretty much use the late season to scout fornext season. It never ends. Then I get coyotes all winter, and turkeys in the spring. But the whole time, im looking for new stand sites, funnels, etc.

Gotta have something to get ya motivated.

RE: What's up with all of these,"Season's Over" threads???

Everyone has a different tolerance for the cold and mine is pretty low. I just do not have much fun when the temperature falls below a certain mark. I hunt for my own pleasure and don't give much thought to what others think. I don't see hunting in 5 degree temps as particularly macho either, especially when the hunting is just as good, if not better, before the temps get that low.

I took two does and buck with the bow. Gun hunting in my opinion, is not as challenging anymore. I know others enjoy it and that is fine. I still occasionally gun hunt, but mostly just to enjoy the social aspects of hunting. I enjoy the solitude of bow hunting in a different way.

If you enjoy the gun season, or enjoy the sub-freezing temps, more power to ya. Go for it. The only "rules" here, are the one the state puts forth and the bars you set for yourself. Everything else is just nonsense.
