As if this season couldn't get any worse...
I'm sure the last thing you guys want to hear is me complain, but this has been the worst season that Shawn and I have ever had in Missouri. With the properties we hunt and as much time as we put in scouting, videoing, hanging stands, and hunting we have no excuse not to have AT LEAST one buck on the ground. We didn't see our first shooter from the stand untill just last week and he wasn't even close to bow range. We have hunted over 30 sits just in November and have nothing to show for it. In the passed two years shawn and I have killed a total of 8 bucks in MO...it's just unbelievable to me that we cannot manage to get just ONE on the ground this year.
Anyway...since our luck was so terrible and since we had been seeing a ton of does on our farm, we decided to go out and do some herd reduction. Wouldnt you know it after having a shot opportunity at a doe nearly every sit in November, we didn't have a single doe even close! Tonight, to top it all off we headed in to one of our better spots to check our trail camera and get in the tree and guess what! Our trail cam had been stolen! What a sack punch just to top it all off. I'm ready for fall of 2009.. [&o] |

My season has slowed down a lot also, but if Igot eitherone of the bucks you killed this year, I'd be happy for years

I think it's going to be pretty tough to find any sympathy around here with two archery bucks over 140" in one season.;) I know you are addressing your MO season, but 30 sits in one season is a success to some hunters with or without a kill. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season. Hopefully the time you put in pays off in the end.

I know exactly what you mean. I have no right to complain either with 3 deer down, but this was a strange year. I saw a little rut activity, but nothing like the frenzied chasing I usually see. There is usually a few days where you see a doe and 4-8 bucks will be trailing her. Or there are bucks running out the open searching for does. I hunted a lot this year and never saw it myself or haven't talked to anyone else that saw it either.

I have had a dream season for me. first archery: deer, pronghorn buck, buck....yet still have to catch myself to not complain about not having put down an archery turkey yet.[X(] But then again, you DO have a B&C and a P&Y deer down for the season, with your bow....maybe Shawn should be making this post. LOL |

I feel your pain. I know the hard work you have exibited in Mo and I know this is what you are refering to with no dividends paid. It is like the stock market, one stock (state) pays good while another fails. Keep at it, it will prosper.

You have got be kidding right? You hunt top quality properties every time you hit the woods. It sucks about the camera and all, but in reality, you have it better than almost everyone that visits this board. Count your blessings instead of coming across with this woe is me crap. Jeez...

Can you expect much more than that for the areas you are hunting? I know for my area, my expectations are much higher...maybe too high i guess But nobody understands when you shoot an 80" deer why you "caved" and didn't "hold out". They dont realize that's one of (if not THE) the best bucks you've seen all year. I'm just busting your chops.....as I KNOW each person's expectations are different. I'd get whiplash hunting where you do.....for a while;). Here's to your season being all you want it to be from here on out. Trust me;).....the entire season can change in a few mere seconds. Mine did, yesterday. |

30 sits in November alone. August for heat, NE andthen MO after thanksgiving for cold. Not like he isnt putting the time in guys. He KNOWS he hunts awesome farms, and isnt complaining about that. It's that he only has one shooter spotted from stand for the entire season.
Its not like he is whining how there arent any gooddeer in his area, he is just venting about how he hasnt been able to get on them. Kind of frustrated with himself. |

Thats what happen to me i was there about everyday of oct. i was in there 8 out of 10 of the first gun season days. I had a doe in range in the middle of oct. And a 11 point a week and half ago dam dogs ran him off. I saw more deer last year on one hunt then i did all this year

Man that does suck, i have seen some of your guys properties and from what you guys have produced in the past this is a suprise. Just one of those years i guess. If you find the camera thief, tie him up and call me, ill drive over, and rough him up, that way you guys will be in the clear, and ill hide back in Indiana :DYou have had late season sucess, its not over Mike ;)

Your right. My goals were to see alot of deer. Not have my stand stolen. And drop atleast one deer be it a 100 pound doe or a 400 pound 200 point buck. JUst one deer.
I did not meet one of my goals for the year. Someone got my ladder from my stand that just about broke me for the year. I had deer in range twice. One doe and a nice 11 point some dogs scared off. And i only saw deer twice when sitting for a hunt. Mike...I am right with you. Have spent way too many hours in a stand in November and yet to have a buck on the ground with a bow. On one hand, I have seen more big bucks this year than the last several combined, and have killed two antlerless deer. And, on that same hand, I killed my best buck ever,with a rifle.
One the thumbs down hand, :D, most all the big ones were out of bow range. Decoyed one nice buck in for a perfect shot (and perfect footage) only to have him turn inside out at the shot and made me look like a goober that sent an arrow way over his back. The big buck I killed with my rifle was only 35 yards (the exact reason I hadn't picked up a rifle 11 of the last 13 years). Top it off...after 8 full days in IL, you can count the number of deer I have seen on one hand. So...here I sit with 2 MO buck tags and one very expensive IL buck tag. My MO farm sucks in late season as the deer move off property in big groups to the south and I have no idea what to make of the spots I am hunting in IL. This is my first year on them and obviously not what I was hoping for, lol. |

Probably already been said but since I only skimmed...
You are a seasoned hunter. You know that's just how the ball bounces sometimes. If you won all the time, winning wouldn't be as much fun anymore. Mind you that is coming from a guy who just had his best season ever. (can we say outside looking in?) I can however sympathize about the camera. I hate thieves and liars. They all need to be laid out and tied down to the Union Pacific. |
