Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
I JUST (a few minutes ago) got access to the 100 (OK, 99) contiguous acres that abuts the 170acres I gained access to, this past year.
I can't tell you how excited I am. This is a dream come true! I now have access to nearly 400 acres to hunt. Thats a far stretch from the 25 I started with three seasons ago. I see me doing a LOT of scouting.....starting around Christmas. |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Good for you man. I need to get busy myself once the seasons wind down.
|
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
That's great Jeff, congratulations, and good luck to you if you decide to hunt there this season at all.

And to think, you were more successful when you have much less land.;)[8D]
Seriously though, new acres opens new possibilities but I think I once told you, I hate having too many places to hunt. One tends to overthink strategies. |

WOW, I would love to come over and huntnext year.....:)HINT, HINT......:)

RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
I agree with a lot of what you're saying, Rob.....but I knew if I was gonna continue doing this (bowhunting) I needed to be able to do it "differently". I like taking it to them a lot more than I liked how I was doing it.
"Second guessing", though??? You darned right I have....and a LOT. BTW....the two bucks I saw yesterday were in the little woodlot we hunted (you know the one). I'd never seen either of them. One was bigger than anything I've shot.....and the other was a 90" deer (I think....I guesstimate). If that doe drags them on the line she'd started on......who knows?[&:] I still have to think about it .....every time I'm NOT in there. But I can now save that spot for the rut and feel good about it. My doe sightings this year have been WAY down.....and I have to attribute that to my presence and amount of deer I've taken from that area. I can also turkey hunt these new lands with no issues. THAT is exciting. If you make it here in the spring.....we'll have access to some areas along the creek that I KNOW they use for traveling. We may have to deal with the poachers.....but I'll take it. WE will have permission. They won't. |

Gri22....
Pick a week/long weekend. We should open around 9/10-ish.....and we'll run through the middle of Dec. OPEN invitation. |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Killer, Jeff.
I'll be out knocking on doors come spring, looking for new ground. Five bowhunters on 130 acres is getting to be too many for me. |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Good news Jeff! I wish you nothing but fun, excitement, and success!
|
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Cool news. Acquiring land is the one thing I am terrible at....I hate begging people and making them feel uncomfortable.(not saying you do, that is just me). That being said, I am trying to get a group of guys together to lease some private land to go along with the public land I hunt for next year.

Your one of them guys that can fall in a pile of crap and come out smelling like a rose arn't ya??:D:D J/K Good for you Jeff.

RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
LOL, Chris...
My new landowner has a doctorate in Theology from Duke Univ.. I wear my Duke sweatshirt over.....to wish he and his wife a happy Thanksgiving. We talked for over an hour. He told me his second cousin owns the land....but he controls it (cousin lives in Boca Raton, FL). He told me to hunt it if I wanted to. In like Flynn;) |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Jeff, thats awesome. I'll be looking for more land to hunt next yearright after the season is over in Jan. I'm in the same boat you were in 3 years ago as far as huntable land goes. Its my own property but its just not enough.
good luck with your new land |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Aaron and I were talking about this over the past few days, and this is a big goal of mine for this spring. I need more land, land I can hunt when I want to, not when my buddies do.
That means more land you can bring friends on too! lol. Congratulations though, you're really racking it up now. The plot just thickened for you too :D |
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Cool deal man, that is great. I did the same thing today, I gained access to a 20 acre woodlot on the edge of, oh I dont know exactly, about 130 acres of soybeans :D. Good luck to ya, hope you get that buck you just saw.
|
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Wish it was half that easy up here to get in on. Use it wisely.
|
RE: Hunting land....When it rains...it pours...!
Good for you Jeff. Take it from me, you can never have to much because it can come and go so easily. I lost 320 acres of good ground right in the middle of the season. Thankfully I just gained some river bottom ground this afternoon and saw the two biggest bucks of the season.
