I am really shocked at the number of people the place $$$$$$$$$$$ in front of their responses. Life cost money, you eat while hunting just like you do working. So many of you place hunting high on your life's goals yet never prepare yourselves to earn the money that serious hunting requires.
Some of you youngsters should dedicate more time to education and earnings potential than you are if you ever expect to hunt some of the more demanding species or locations. |
RE: So you'll pay $2 Grand+.........
For me, I'd just rather hunt NA big game. Just appeals to me more....Africa is cool, and I would love to do it eventually...but that is waaay down the road. If I did go, it would NOT be on a high fence preserve, just for personal reasons....not knocking those that do it, just isn't for me.
Over seas? Id like to do a NZ Chamois and a Australian Water Buffalo hunt....other than that, I have WAY too much in states hunting to accomplish. I have alot of goals when it comes to hunting. KY wise? Ive accomplished most of them this year....only lacking a bow turkey right now. I still hope to get a bruiser buck with my bow, annually would be even better:D, but my main goal was to get my first down. My next goal in hunting is the North American Deer Slam with my bow, hopefully within 6 years but if time restraints make it stretch out so be it. For now, all will be DIY bowhunts (mainly due to money saved). Whitetail is done, next on the list is Sitka Blacktail in 09. 2010 is Mulies and possibly Coues Whitetail in AZ. 2011 is Columbian Blacktail and Mulies again. Any hunts after that is pure speculation, it depends on how these first hunts go as to where I go next. |

ORIGINAL: GMMAT LT.... Funny thing is....right now I'm not interested. What I find mildly irritating are the ones who would talk down or discount another's choice to go there.....yet they'll say nothing (or heck....even do it, themselves) to their buddy who pays $2K to hunt an animal that's ranging freely out his back door. |

Some of you youngsters should dedicate more time to education and earnings potential than you are if you ever expect to hunt some of the more demanding species or locations. Not everything in life should be based on money, but nearly everything in life requires money. If one can still be happy with their work and make more money, what is the downside you know? Like you said, hunting abroad takes alot of dough, god willing, I can one day down the road experience some of these hunts. There are cheaper alternatives for nearly all hunts though. Like you said, food is eaten no matter where you are, so a non factor. Get discounted or free airfare (or carpool out there), and do a public land DIY hunt....and you aren't out all that much money in the whole scheme of things. Alot of guys will pony up for one or two new bows a year and even more in gear, but complain of how they can't afford to hunt out west.....most species can be hunted for the cost of a new bow or less these days, its doable...just have to do your homework on how and where to go. |

Owning your own land is another , While your young buy a home with land, or local undeveloped land.
Who wants to retire with out a honey hole they can call their own? |
RE: So you'll pay $2 Grand+.........
ORIGINAL: iamyourhuckleberry Jim, I've killed 150 inch whitetail, yes they are tough to hunt. I have hunted my asre off for a zebra (any zebra) and haven't come close with my bow. It's all relative though. A 15 inch Mt. lion, a 20 black bear, a 65 inch moose. Pick one...they are all extremely difficult to hunt. I understand Jeff's point.this thread brings to mindthe old Meadowlark Lemon from the Harlem Globetrotters, remember him? Plenty of talent, no doubt about it... butman...the same game, same opponent, same court, same outcome...At what point do you switch it up? |
RE: So you'll pay $2 Grand+.........
Yet it seems you dont mind talking down or discounting anothers choice NOT to go there or pay $2000 to hunt whitetails. |
